Back to myLot after a long break

Hi! I haven't been around in quite some time on MyLot - it looks like I haven't been on here since May of this year - but gosh it feels SO much longer! I didn't intend on taking a break, but I have been pretty busy with both jobs and life! I'd been saving up money like crazy to buy a house this fall. I wasn't sure how fast or slow this would happen but once I got a nice ish (for me) emergency fund and a little bit saved up, I went house hunting.
Most houses in my price range, as a single middle class lady, were disgusting. And it was disheartening. Then I found my current house - it's really at the top of my price range - but I LOVE it. It's a small rambler, with a 2 car garage, nice long driveway, and gorgeous backyard with patio. Also, they left behind their greenhouse!
So this is the exciting news in my world. I'm going to be back online on MyLot and doing my old "online earning" things because I will be looking to make some extra change since my mortgage is going to be extremely expensive.
The interest rate? 7.3%
Horrible and is making my mortgage REALLY expensive for one person, but I'm going to do my best to make it work, work a lot, and refinance when rates go down a little bit - which will make a huge difference.
So, I'm also trying to live frugally also, because I still want to take a couple smaller trips per year. It keeps me young!
How has everyone been doing?
Any advice for a new homeowner?

Depends on what you need advice on. My husband and I bought our house nearly six years ago and we got a lot of firsts. I'd be happy to help where I can. Congrats on the house, though. It's well-deserved.

@maezee You're going to have those for a while. Moving into a new place and making it yours, takes time.

It looks like a great home, and if you are loving it, then that is all that matters.
Don't stress over the interest rate, our first home back in 1990 was at 13 3/4% interest, it was the rate at the time.
We had RHOSP, which are Registered Home Owners Savings Plans to our max for our income which helped a great deal.
We made a tidy little profit off of that home when we sold it 5 years later.

I’m so sorry your mortgage is so high but wow I absolutely love that house you picked out. I hope you can share more photos of it with us soon like the back yard etc. I am happy you are back. That was a long time to be away but you gotta so what you gotta do :). I assume this is your first house?

I wondered where you were, Maezee! Yes, I took a breather away from My Lot, not by choice. My eyes were giving me problems, from bright lighting. Congratulations, buying a new home, that's wonderful:) We bought my mother's home, it's expensive maintaining a house!

@maezee I was having flashing white lights, in my field of vision. My optometrist seems to think it's nothing serious.

Wow why is that interest rate so high Maezee. But I am thrilled for you!!
Really I am so very proud of you..you were wise to buy a house now while you are young!
I love the look of it too. Maybe you will show us the backyard sometime when the weather is nice.

Welcome back! Congratulations on finding a home that you like. We've been hanging in there. Hubby and I both have some health challenges; but we're both still around!!! You'll find as a homeowner that "it's always something". I hope that you don't have a lot of expenses come up with your home ownership. Have a good week.
