Mangalitsas are curly-haired pigs native to Hungary. They resemble sheep more than pigs. These pigs are referred to as “Kobe beef of pork” due to their color and marbling of meat but let us not consider this. There are three distinct colors of Mangalitsas – Swallow Belly Mangalitsa, the Red Mangalistsa, and the Blonde Mangalitsa. In 2007 the first Swallow Belly arrived in the US from Austria and in 2014 from Hungary the Red and Blonde. Mangalistas are known for thriving in harsh conditions but still need proper shelter from rain or snow. They can be contained with only minimal fencing and are docile and friendly. In the spring they lose their winter coats and have cooler summer coats. Their diets are simple and they’re considered to be low-maintenance pigs. Wouldn’t you want one @wolfgirl569 ?
