Brussels sprouts?

These little buds are members of the cabbage family and are native to the Mediterranean region. Brussels sprouts first appeared in northern Europe in the 5th century. They were cultivated near Brussels, Belgium, in the 13th century which is how they got their name. In the 1700s they were brought to Louisiana in the United States by French settlers. They are high in Vitamin C and Vitamin K. If you are on anticoagulants, it is advised that you don't eat a lot of Brussels sprouts because it could cause your blood not to clot. I love these little cabbages, especially when prepared by Red Lobster or Longhorn Steakhouse. They add a bit of sweetness to them which is so delicious. Do you like Brussels sprouts? How do you like them prepared? Photo Credit: Pixabay

I like brussel sprouts, I usually parboil them and then put them into a frying pan and finish them with a splash of balsamic vinegar and will shred a bit of parm cheese on them when I put them into a bowl for the table.

No, thank you. I would even refuse to eat these if I was a guest in someone's house. YUCKY! Yes, I'm not always polite.

That's OK. They're not for everyone. For example, I don't like asparagus or beets. Yuck!

@LindaOHio Asparagus is okay to me. I like them cut up into scrambled eggs or in baked veggies. I ate pickled beets when I was a kid but haven't bought any since I moved out of mom's house. (Mom always pickled them when I was growing up.)

I've always liked Brussel Sprouts. I prefer them braised in a skillet or baked in the oven. I've grown them in my garden before, but not for a while. With skyrocketing prices, next year the only flowers I will be planting is my two pots of lantanas on my front porch. Everything else is going to be vegetables. It's not that big of a place, tiny garden in the back and a strip in the side yard, but hey...it surely does taste wonderful.

Actually the anti coagulants are counteracted by the vitamin K, You are correct that you have to limit or omit Brussels sprouts, spinach, broccoli and other dark green veggies if you are on anti coagulent therapy. I had to deal with this with different people I have taken care of. There is a restaurant here that serves them roasted as an appetizer.

@LindaOHio I've always loved vegetables, especially cabbages, although it's rare to find Brussels sprouts I also love to eat them. In Indonesia, there is a food called BAKSO, which is ground meat made into small balls with chopped chilies, celery, mustard leaves, and fried onions as a topping, accompanied by broth and eaten in cold weather like now. Some people there are also those who like to eat it with white or yellow noodles, but that's not for me.

They look cut like miniature cabbages. But as far as I know, we don't have it in our region, We have cabbages though. And we usually cook them with meat and potatoes. They're delicious additions to meat because they balance the hardness of the meat.
