I woke up very early, in part because I turned off the lights earlier and in part because I´m not used to this extreme morning heatI live near the mountains and here there are almost 20° C of difference between dawn and afternoon.
Today I listened to ideas on TV about dealing with this heat. We must close the house as we do during winter. We can air it at dawn but close every window and door at midday on. I hadn´t thought of that.
See you later, friends. I´ll get going now.

Good morning.
You can also set a fan to bring air into the house during the night when it's cool and another fan to push the air out of the house. Ideally, the fans should be on opposite sides of the house with a clear sightline between the two openings. Then shut the fans off when the temp starts rising in the morning and close the two openings to preserve as much of the coolness as possible during the daytime.

@DaddyEvil I have a small fan in my bedroom that I can place anywhere in the room. I´m using it now. Here we don´t use those ceiling fans that I have seen in the US and we don´t need it. Last year I did not need my fan. But now we are having a heat wave for 10 days. It is not worth it spending money in more fans.

@LadyDuck I suppose that it depends on the kind of house you have. My windows have thick glasses in the windows though.

@marguicha We have outside shutters, this is something I really appreciate, I feel so much safer when I close the shutters for the night.

That is very important. Keeping it all closed up will keep a lot of heat out. I had to teach the kids to not keep running in and out.

It can help you stay cooler if you get the timing right. Hope you send some warmth my way soon.

Are black-out curtains popular there? They really do help. You draw them closed if the day is extremely cold and it helps retain heat in your home. In the hot weather, they block the sun very well, so that it doesn't stream inside and make it hotter than it already is in the home. It does help to keep the house closed up to help with the temperature.

I used to have some but my eldest daughter helped herself to them when she was just married. I thought I could have other ones soon but never did.

Keep the curtains closed all day, that makes a huge difference. If you have windows on the shady side of the house, open those to allow cool air in and open others at the top of the house (if you have any) to let heat out. We had 40 C heat here at times during the summer and that kept the indoors quite comfortable.

Most of my windows are towards the warmest side. It is more important for us to welcome the winter sun than to stay away from the summer. These last days have been exceptionally hot.

We keep the house closed up during the summer too and have heavy drapes that block out the sun on the west side of the house. We have central air; so we don't get really hot if we keep the house closed up.

My house is not as hot as the outside either. I, too, have thick curtains.

Enjoy. I prefer summer to winter any time.
