This is the former. The Leftovers is like no other streaming TV Show in its approach and subtle intrigue. Its explodes on to your screen as stock Sci/Fi after an ‘event’ and then evolves into something else, more religion and parable than aliens and vampires, For once. ===Cast=== Justin Theroux…Kevin Garvey Amy Brenneman…Laurie Garvey Christopher Eccleston…Matt Jamison Liv Tyler…Meg Abbott Chris Zylka…Tom Garvey Carrie Coon..Nora Durst… Margaret Qualley…Jill Garvey Ann Dowd Patti Levin Kevin Carrol…lJohn Murphy Jovan Adepo… Michael Murphy Janel Moloney…Mary Jamison ===The Plot=== Its three years on since the event known as The Global Sudden Departure, 2% of the world’s population, 140 million people, inexplicably disappearing in an instant, leaving behind a desolate loss For the relatives and friends alike, no one having a clue why it happened or where they are, alive or dead, supernatural, out of space or even biblical. A local Sherriff, Kevin Garvey (Justin Theroux), is one of many dealing with the community’s grief, not his. The Wife, Laurie (Amy Brenneman), has let him to join a nihilist cult, The Guilty Remnant, one of many that sprung up as established religions waned. Led by the charismatic Holy Wayne (Chris Zyika) they all dress in white, don’t speak, and demonstratively chain smoke ,intimidating the locals and taking draconian action with fellow members who stray. They believe that it’s the end of the world and the 98% died that day, not the 2%. Megg Abbott (Liv Tyler) is also in the cult and the go-between For Garvey and his wife, their beautiful young daughter Jill (Margaret Qualley) struggling with her parents separation on the outside. Local priest Matt Jamison (Christopher Ecclestone) helps local families like them in his depleted traditional church. The job of people like Nora Durst (Carrie Coon) is to decide compensation for the living relatives of the departed, trying to decipher IF their level of grief is real or fraud. Depression is everywhere and the Fear off another Departure hanging over everyone. ===Results=== This is very much a show for mature adults. This is not Euphoria or SMILF. If you loved Breaking Bad and think Manifest is silly then you need The Leftovers in your life. I have only watched two seasons from the three so far and although the show seems to be more about depression and loss I’m hoping it gets bit more Science-Fiction in season three. It’s well constructed and intriguing and so sad this type of show is so rare in streaming land. With its emotive soundtrack and attractive cast it’s a curio you just can’t put down; shaking it like a snowdome in the hope the pieces finally settle and make sense. But as we are no nearer why the people disappeared I want to stick around and find out.
