I missed the trash truck

Dammit - I missed the trash collection! Where I live our household trash is recycled into four different bins - plastics and cans, paper and cardboard, food waste and garden waste, and general trash which doesn't qualify for the other three bins. Our trash is collected every Friday on a rota basis - a different bin every week which we must place on the sidewalk ready for collection. Normally I'm on top of it but this week for some reason it completely slipped my mind and I forgot to put out the appropriate bin (general trash this week). Our trash truck usually comes round at about 9 am at which time I'm normally still tucked up in bed, especially on these cold winter mornings, so I missed the collection!
It isn't really a problem since we have the option of taking the trash to the recycling centre ourselves but it is inconvenient since I have to bag the trash, load it into my car and drive to the recycling centre to dump it. Fortunately, it doesn't cost anything but I should really get my act together and get it right next week!

I live in a very small city. The trash truck shows up once a week and takes anything we put out for them. The only recycling we do is aluminum cans and we have to take them to the recycler ourselves. I'll do that because they will pay us for the cans. If I wanted to drive for 45 minutes, I could take some paper products to a recycler but they won't pay for the gas to take that type of trash to them. (The recycler for aluminum cans is only ten minutes away from my house.)

@Albain That must be really nice. I'd separate the trash if it didn't cost so much to drive it to the recyclers. If I miss the trash truck, I just hold on to it. It costs $8 to take a load of trash to the dump and that's all I pay a month for my trash service.

I could never forget the trash. I would have a long way to walk to dump it if I did.

We have to bag the trash, dispose in the container on the main road (there are many) and they come twice a week to collect the bags. We cannot put everything in the bag, glass, plastic, paper, tin cans, light bulbs, batteries must be deposited in the special containers at the recycling center. Two minute walk from home.

Hmm... it's better to wait till next week if you can. It would be definitely inconvenient to take it to recycle centre on your own.
Here too, we have strict policies about waste segregation. Our kitchen waste, garden waste and sanitary waste are collected daily. We have different colours of dustbins for them. Our recyclable wastes are collected twice a week on Wednesday and Saturday.

You are fortunate. We have one trash can, and no recyling center. Wish we had it as good.
