What do you think about kids mouths being washed out with soap?

This happened an awful lot in families when I was growing up. My father used to threaten me with it when I had bad behavior, but he never did. Many years ago, a child died choking on his own vomit after his mouth was washed out with soap. What are your opinions about this being done? Do you know anybody doing it today? Has it happened to you or a loved one?

I got my mouth washed out with soap a few times when I was a kid, and all I can say is that Lifeboy was a much better deterrent than Safeguard. ;-)

Washing kids mouth out with soap because of bad behavior is a bit much. It's ridiculous. Their are better ways to get the point across than to abuse or put fear in someone. I've seen it done before. Some things we were taught to do or our parents did it to us. It might of worked but for some it didn't.
