What a beautiful, relatively warm (45F) day! A perfect day to issue a “state of emergency” for the forthcoming winter storm. Also a good day to give you another song with “cold” in the title. Hey, I can use this one in six months for the “hot” songs! Here’s today’s song. #8 Hot Love, Cold World - Bob Welch There are things in this world I simply cannot understand. Bob Welch is one of them. When Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame the original members were inducted, along with the “superstar era” members Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Despite his importance as transitioning Fleetwood Mac to a “more rock, less blues” (or “commercial,” if you will) band, Welch was not included. Y’know, that’s pettier than Tom. Shortly before the induction Welch sued the band for non-payment of royalties, so that may have had something to do with it. (Too bad the band, not the Hall of Fame themselves, called that shot. ) Whatever, it’s a crying shame that Welch was not included, because he was an essential part of Fleetwood Mac’s legacy. After he left Fleetwood Mac, paving the way for Buckingham and his girlfriend to join, Bob Welch had a band called Paris. They broke up before they could record their third album, so Welch made a solo album. And, hey, it was a success! The big hits were his remake of “Sentimental Lady” (which he’d recorded with Fleetwood Mac on Bare Trees) and “Ebony Eyes.” This was a smaller hit from the album as well. I loved that album, and I still do. Hot Love, Cold World Written by Bob Welch and John Henning Recorded by Bob Welch From French Kiss, 1977 Now there is a way to say “I love you”:

It must be a generational thing. I've never heard this one before; and it's not my style. Stay home and stay safe and warm.

I’m not that far a generation behind you, lady. No, it’s personal taste. You like it or you don’t. I’m home, safe, and warm! You too!

Not familiar with this one but considering the deep freeze coming to Florida I would say my cats will have to give me hot love in our cold world,

I'm not a Fleetwood Mac fan. I'm glad you enjoy his music.

Personal tastes, nothing to worry about if you don’t like them. I don’t care for Stevie Nicks’ songs in the band, but a lot of other people think she’s THE primary member. Not me. Anyway, you have a blessed day!

Nothing severe like tornadoes, just C O L D weather…which is something we aren’t all that used to. I’ve been watching a holiday set-up in Duluth, Minnesota, and people are out in the cold and snow, enjoying it. Here, you say “Hank Snow” and people panic.

Sentimental Lady was a favorite of mine Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac sang backup on Welch's solo version. Suing was kind of a bad idea on Bob's part even if he was in the right. When it comes to money it can be a very slippery slope. One of many examples would be Don Felder's fallout with the Eagles. He wanted to be paid the same as Frey/Henley one mistake that eventually led to his ouster from the band.

Very true, and now all Felder has is his settlement money and memories.

Probably why it wasn’t as big a hit as “Sentimental Lady.” Stay warm in this weather!

I'll check this out later. That's a crying shame that I had not known about. Bare Trees is one of my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. Another is Future Games.

We are under a state of emergency as well through the weekend. Stay safe my friend. I think they should have let him with the band. Those who know all of the band's work know how much he contributed.
