The symmetrical patterns in nature

One of the fascinating things about lantanas are the symmetry and patterns that they show in their flower clusters. Even the buds have such a beautiful pattern - almost looks mathematical! They are simple flowers, but this one that I saw on the wayside had a lovely mix of two shades and the design just blew my mind. I could stare at them for hours!

Lantanas are common here. We had them in our garden on our farm when I was small and always had to keep the pet lambs away from them as they are poisonous to stock.
