Peter will never touch my guitar again.

Several months ago, perhaps over a year ago, I wrote about a fellow instructor at Guitar Center who rubbed me wrong. He was a "stealer of students," bragged about sexual conquests, and was in general sort of a bother. But we reached an uneasy truce, and would sometimes jam together. He doesn't really know "jam etiquette," and will "Bogart" a jam, but Oh Well (to quote Fleetwood Mac, as @FourWalls would attest). Last night I let him play my Collings guitar, which I had recently restrung. We were both "between lessons." The thing was sounding great, and I was glad to have it restrung. Suddenly, he started bending strings in absurd ways, throwing the guitar way out of tune, stretching the new strings in ways I didn't want them stretched, and in general messing with my mojo. I could hardly get the thing in tune for my last three lessons and found myself in a grumpy mood. When I got home, I started this post, but chose to wrote about Alee and the pecans instead. I wanted to feed the good wolf, not the bad. Peter will not be touching my guitars in the future. I'll see if I can find Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well." It's playing in my head right now.

You can’t help about the shape you’re in You sing, you’re a pony, and your legs are thin But don’t ask you what you think of Peter We might hear dirty words about him being a stinker

I may do some research on him today. I just read that he was influenced by Muddy Waters and traditional Jewish music. That's one hell of a good combination. Happy Hanukkah. Oh snap. My Black Magic Kitty wants me to pet her. I can't leave her alone.

Why did you let anybody touch your instruments in the first place? Blink. And since you don't particularly care for this person...why? That is not India...Right?

I am pretty trusting. But you know that. Certain things are simply "not done." You don't sit on another man's motorcycle without asking him, for example. And so on. But some people are...clueless?

UGH. Just WHY would the guy mess with your strings like that - that's just a no-no to adjust another musician's instruments like that. I have overstretched guitar strings in the past - and it doesn't go back to the way it was. UGH. Peter should pay for new strings!!

I'll check it today. It stayed in tune when I tuned it up last night. If I need to, I'll just change the strings again.

After you were kind enough to let him play your guitar, he treats it so badly. I hope you can get it tuned up again. I'm sure he won't be playing your guitar again.

It was still acting "injured" today, but I have it in tune now. We'll see what happens.

I am curious as to his "bending the strings in unusual ways." I mean, 1/4 and full bends are the limit. How was he bending them and why? What would even be the point? I mean, playing notes in a particular way that don't belong in the scale can produce interesting results...but bending outside of the scale? That would sound horrible I would think and would be fruitless.

I actually have no idea why he was doing what he was going. It was not in the context of a song.

@porwest Yep. It's a done deal. I'll check the guitar now and see if it's in tune. He might have toasted that set of strings but I don't think he caused structural damage to the guitar. At over $4000, it's my most "fancy" guitar right now.

@TheHorse lol. Especially when one does things with one's guitar not in the context of a song...keeping said guitar from that person is probably the best decision to have. lol

Oh goodness sorry about that, that reminds me of the time two of my cousins when we were young coming over and me wanting to be nice, let them play with a couple of my dolls. They were too rough with them. I made sure that never happened again.

@LeaPea2417 Glad the dolls survived. I had a kid over once who had never seen a turntable before. Before I could get there, she had destroyed my $100 cartridge (the needle, if you're not a fellow audio geek). Cost of doing business, I reckon.

Does this guy have some screws loose or is he just doing these things to annoy you? I see no point in him doing those things to your guitar. I would say if you can just stay well aways from him,
