Stating the obvious

I would have thought that keeping out of the way of aircraft would be pretty obvious but maybe not. We recently flew from Melbourne home to Perth and were a bit intrigued by this sign at Melbourne airport. I think anyone in their right mind would give way to aircraft but I guess it’s aimed at the baggage handling trolley-drivers. I would certainly give way to any planes that might cross my path.

You're right, giving way to aircraft seems the logical thing to do without being told

I mean, it's pretty obvious, isn't it?

Yes, I wouldn't stand in the way of any aircraft that's for sure and to think anyone would seems ludicrous.

True. You'd only stand in the way once.

You know how today’s generation is…they have to put “caution: contents are hot” on the lids of hot coffee.

They need to change 'commonsense' to 'uncommonsense' methinks.

You'd think the sign wouldn't be needed but maybe it's helpful to someone.

I guess it's a reminder for those who get a bit blase about working there among the planes.

@JudyEv It very likely is. Sometimes we don’t pay attention.

It stands to reason that anything bigger than me ought to be a priority to stay out of the way of. But sometimes common sense is a bit lacking. Or, I should rephrase that... Common sense is absent the psyche mostly these days.

You know, for every sign that seems obvious SOMEONE has done just what they are being cautioned against, hence the need for a sign. Someone must have failed to give way to the aircraft.

That's probably true. Maybe a baggage cart got run into by a plane.

I haven't heard of many baggage handlers being hit by airplanes, but then again..maybe the pilots were tired of having to wait for them to get out of the way.

I guess there must have been an incident once or twice for there to be a need for a sign.

Ha, ha! Yes, you don't want to be on a collision course with that plane. Another way to emphasize who has the right of way, as if anyone would start an argument.

Yes it would be for the workers, in particular the baggage handlers. The general public can't get into that area.

I'm glad you have the sense to stay out of the way of aircraft! It's definitely a good idea to give them plenty of space, especially when they're taking off and landing. I can just imagine a baggage trolley driver trying to race a plane to the runway and losing every time. Better to let the planes have the right of way and avoid any potential trolley-plane pileups. Safe travels!

Yep, that must be for those who handle the trolleys. I have seen some very unruly guys trying to make their job done quicker and not paying attention to anyone else,
