Meals - 12/22/22

Hubs went to Walmart yesterday and said that the store was packed and shelves were sometimes empty. A combination of holiday shoppers and storm shoppers were the culprits. It is 8 am on the 22nd; and the s**w is s**wing and blowing. The temps have dropped to 16 Fahrenheit (-8.88 Celsius) and will probably bottom out around 0 Fahrenheit (-17.77 Celsius) when the front passes all the way through. I don't know how high the winds are right now. All the vegetation is covered with ice. There will be no Meals on Wheels deliveries today due to the weather.
I hope those of you in the path of this storm are home and safe and sound. If you are traveling, I pray that you will reach your destination safely.
What is your storm story?
Today we will probably work on getting the cabbage rolls done. Neither of the stores had ground pork, so we decided to try something new. 3 pounds ground beef to 1 pound of Bob Evans sausage. Should make for an interesting combination.

I pray everyone faced with that storm will be safe and like you I pray travelers in that storm will reach their destinations safely. Here it's cold but no snow and hopefully we won't get any. It's too early to tell if it's cloudy, it's only 7:20 am here right now.

@marlina I have tweaked a recipe over the years and now use it. This year we couldn't get some of the ingredients and we substituted. Should be an interesting batch.

We had -10F with a wind chill at -35F during the night last night. We got clear up to 6F today with the wind chill at -11F.
I went through the house last year and weatherized it. New caulk around the windows and new weather seals at the doors. Last night our bedrooms reached 76F and we started trying to figure out why... Turns out the seals around the front door were leaking frigid air into the house. The thermostat in the living room was still set for 73F but the heater kept kicking on. With our bedroom doors closed, we didn't notice. We put a blanket over the front door to keep the wind out and the house went back to 73F again. I'm glad that's all that was wrong. I'm looking forward to seeing the electric bill this next month.

Yes our gas bill should be a good one next month too. I am looking forward to Thursday when the temps will be above 40 degrees!!!

Right now it is windy and cold here in Florida but by Christmas Eve they say the temps will be in the 30s. I had my usual pork patties, tater tots and gravy,

All of that just makes that 88 days appear in BOLD for me. lol. I can imagine there it is as much panedmonium as here in the St. Louis metro area—people simply panic buy. It is still comical to me being from Wisconsin, where most says like this were just a walk in the park for most people.
Oh well.
But I AM safe and sound and back at home, and incidentally back in the office today. Last night I made baked barbecue pork steaks with stuffing and broccoli on the side. Yummy.

Oh! It's freezing there. I could feel myself shivering reading those temperatures. Stay warm and indoors. Hope your cabbage rolls with new experimentation comes out good.
Your meals sound good. You mentioned that Meals on wheels didn't deliver today. So, I presume that your meals on wheels meal was from previous day leftovers.
