LIBERATION!!!!!! Yes, folks, I’m back at my regular seat at my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant, enjoying my chicken taco salad (CTS for short )!! Two years ago I was locked up in my house because of covid (back in the days when you had a mandatory 10-day quarantine). Hmm…I’ll make plans right now to stay home for Christmas 2024. Meanwhile, here’s a cool song with “cold” in the title.
#3: Too Cold At Home - Mark Chesnutt
Linda? NO. See the cowboy hat?? You won’t make it past the first note (which is on a steel guitar).
Earlier in the countdown Ocean (@RebeccasFarm ) said she was looking for another song after I promised her another one about “cold love.” Here ‘tis!
Tis song was written by Bobby Harden of the Harden Trio, which probably means nothing to anyone who’s not a country music fan. They had the 1966 hit “Tippy Toeing.” No sleeping little babies here; instead, a country song about what country music stereotypically does best. “It’s too hot to fish, too hot for golf, and too cold at home” is just a killer hook. And something you’ll only get in country music.
I don’t know if it’s intentional or just my goofy mind, but it seems to me that Mark Chesnutt puts a little nod to the 1971 and 1972 Song of the Year, “Easy Loving,” in the way he holds the word easy in the song.
Mark Chesnutt is still out there making music, but given that he was one of the neotraditionalists of the late 80s/early 90s you won’t find his music unless you look for it. Songs like this made him a star and endeared him to people like me who still like their country music country.

Why couldn't I have met one of these guys to warm up and make them sing a different tune?
Thanks Four Walls..soothing somehow. You are the best pal.

I think one of the reasons sad songs resonate with people is that it makes us realize we aren’t the only one who feels that way. I latched on to Janis Ian’s “At Seventeen” for that reason. I thought I was the only person in the world who was picked on in school.
Glad you enjoyed the song.

@RebeccasFarm — oh, well, it’s all in the past and I’m doing great! Living well is the best revenge.

@FourWalls Now that it's a little warmer, do you have the traveling bug?

That's like true country right there, do not hear that often anymore. Pretty cool coming from someone who is not big on country but I do like true country.

@FourWalls I love it and see why I say many punk musicians love true country too. Three chords and the truth, ain't that that the truth.

Harlan Howard, the great songwriter, described country music as “three chords and the truth.” Also works good for describing the Clash’s music.

I’m sorry about that. That’s not pleasant outside of a song.

@FourWalls My neighbor has the next 6 days off so I won't see him unless she decides to spend the night out or something.

This song now warms me up because our warm days are returning, I've been peeling layers off bit by bit and finally will get to wash my hair and get myself ready for the new year,

Always loved his music. Saw him in concert right before he hit it big, along with Kenny Chesney and Martina McBride. Put on a great show.

I don't know what I'm going to do if "Funky Cold Medina" shows up on your list.
