2023 Low Carb Journey - Day 1

Hello everyone, how are you all doing? So yes, I got back on my low carb journey today. Should I start with the weigh in, and rip off the band-aid? Weigh in - January 2nd, 2023 - 213.4 Last January 1st - 180.6 So yes, I Have gained about 33 pounds? Most of it was gained since July though. We'll see how the scale moves now... Blood sugars? Started out in the 160s but then it shot up close to 200 (before even eating). It did drop to the 140s for quite a while. However after my final meal it was 178 I think. What did I eat? Meal 1 - 1 egg, 1 sausage patty Meal 2 - 1/4 pound beef frank with mustard/sugar free ketchup Meal 3 - Can of tuna (only ate about half) with cheese, mayo and sugar free ketchup. Bag of protein chips Macros - Calories - 1,038 Protein - 61 Fat - 80 Carbs - 12 My macros were pretty good - though my protein needs to be a bit higher. I just could not finish the tuna. I didn't really want to eat my first meal either...just not appealing. Anyways - what do you think about my day one?

Did you eat a lot of bad things over the holiday? I ate so many sweets I was a bit sick with it and still kept doing it

@MommyOfEli2013 I won’t really want anything to do with junk foods then I’ll have one cookie and will crave sweets so bad for months and eat anything I can get my hands on. I gave up anything with sugar twice and both times I felt it was harder then when I quit smoking.

@shaggin Well sugar is very addicting for sure....I don't know how many times I gave up carbs and then went back to them only to start over again

You did pretty well, I agree you should increase your protein intake.

@MommyOfEli2013 It takes time and perseverance to see success. It doesn't happen overnight.

@just4him I know it doesn't, but I should have seen at least a little bit by now.

@LindaOHio I have no patience. I just am used to dropping 5-10 quickly that is water weight. This time I have only dropped like 1 pound

It hasn't been a great start, not dropping weight like I usually do... Sorry you gained that much, not as much as I did.

I am sure this is hard to stick to, due to not a lot of variety of foods. I know you said you hate fruits and vegetables; I wish there were a few you liked to add some things to your daily food intake, but I certainly have no suggestions. That is a really low calorie count for one day. I went below 1000 per day for a bit but the doctor said I had to do at least 1200-1500, so I pretty much have learned to stick to that amount. Of course, I do have a treat once in a while, I try to allow for that, I know how hard it can be to lose weight. I hope you can have success, Courtney.

It is very hard to stick to. I hate eating just meat on its own...and eggs haven't been appetizing to me. Fruits wouldn't even be low carb enough, so no worries there. Going under for a day I don't think is an issue. But when you do it constantly then it is an issue. However yesterday I was under on calories again. Today we'll see...

@MarieCoyle I am finding it hard to stick to for sure, just never know what to eat because on low carb nothing sounds appealing. That's good that eating those foods helped you

@MommyOfEli2013 I hope you can stick to it; I know how hard it is to diet. I have to keep myself super busy to get my mind off of it all sometimes. I think in my case eating more vegetables and fruit helped me a lot, I understand about you not eating them, just telling you that it helped me. Plus, I bought no junk foods at all... If it's not here, I can't eat it, LOL.

It's a good start. Your sugar will take a couple of days to stabilize so be patient

It normally does by the end of day 1. Day 3 and still high. Very frustrating.
