Carpal Tunnel or Arthritis?

United States
January 5, 2023 2:20pm CST
For almost a week now, I've been feeling tingling in both my hands, but the left one has more stationary tingling at times. There was a time when I simply fixed my hair, and the middle and ring finger on my left hand had cramps which I had to massage immediately. I'm not really sure if this is a result of exercising too much. I have the tendency to over-exercise, especially when I want to sweat. When I don't sweat I tend to exercise for 1.5 hours a day. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic, and I don't want to be a fully pledged diabetic, because if that happens, I'll be the 1st diabetic in the family, and that will not be fun at all. Today, Thursday, Jan. 6th I have an appointment with a doctor. Hoping, praying, and claiming that this s nothing serious, just overworked hands.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by nerve compression, arthritis is caused by inflammation to the joint. People with diabetes can experience hand cramps from stiff hand syndrome, better that you go to see your doctor.

Hi! Yes, I was seen by a doctor and he asked me to do some movements with my hands, and he said that it sure is carpal tunnel. I will have both my wrists and shoulders x-rayed this Saturday. So, I'll just update you. Thank you :-)

@baguiojade Mom had carpal tunnel, she did some exercises that worked, she did not want to have surgery at her old age.

Do your hands immediately start HURTING when you grasp your comb or other smaller objects in your hands? Do you get shooting pain up your forearm when you grasp smaller objects in your hands? If so, then it might be carpal tunnel. (I had to have carpal tunnel surgery years ago. It isn't fun but neither is not being able to pick up smaller objects, either.)

What I notice is, when I try to reach down that's when there's this sensation of a vein getting pulled from my underarm to my hand. There's no pain in my wrist (thank God for that). When I'm not doing anything, there's still subtle tingling in my left hand. According to the doctor who assessed me, I may have to have therapy. Thank you for responding to this post of mine.

I know you want to stay healthy, but over exercises can cause diabetic symptoms as well as other things. So be careful with that.

I was recalling what have I done prior to this discomfort. I remembered that before Christmas, I cooked around 3 or 4 dishes good for 3 people, and me having this policy, if I may say, clean as you go. If my memory serves me right, I also mopped the floor. So now, I would like to conclude that it was not over-exercising, it was just too much time slicing, prepping and cooking, and mopping that caused this. I'll update you with what the x-ray results will be. Thank you for your concern.
