I know that a lot of people on here are trying to lose weight OR at least keep weight off. I know this is hard if you are over the age of 40. Eating your fruit and vegetables, don't skip breakfast, getting plenty of sleep, eating healthy foods and not fried ones as well as using grilling, broiling, and baking, no second helpings are probably the ones we know best. Here is a checklist that might give some of you some different areas to think about:
* Don't drink sugary drinks like sweetened tea, coffee, or pop. Instead, drink water or zero-calorie type drinks.
* Have your thyroid checked. If you are doing all the right things and still are having trouble losing weight you may have a thyroid issue.
* Fit in at least 2 1/2 hours of moderate exercise a week. Brisk walking or light yard work is great choices.
* Build Muscle. We naturally lose muscle after the age of 40. Since muscle burns more calories than fat a person needs to build that muscle. Lifting weights and doing push-ups at least twice a week are good ways to keep that muscle.
* Keep your stress level down by doing Yoga, meditation, and deep breathing. Stress can make you binge and that is usually high-calorie foods that make it harder for your body to break down fat.
* Eating less at night. If you eat most of your calories before 3p. you may lose more weight rather than eating a large meal later in the day.
* Think ahead. If you live a busy, active life you may want to think ahead and carry a healthy snack and figure out your meal breaks so that you don't miss a meal and are more apt to get a sugary fast snack on the go.
* Cut back on alcohol. Alcohol can make you hungry. It also adds a lot of calories to your diet.
Bottom line is that how your body stores fat, your eating habits, activity level, and hormones all play a role in how you are able to lose weight.

I think the one important thing is to have a realistic mindset. You (General “you,” not you specifically) did NOT gain weight overnight; and, by the same token, you’re not going to lose it overnight. It’s taken me 13 months to lose 40 pounds, and it probably took me 13 months to gain it…so everything is fine. Just don’t buy into that “lose 60 pounds in 20 days” garbage.

Thank you for the useful information. I am guilty of eating late in the day even though I know that I shouldn't.

@celticeagle That's not good. I used to eat yogurt for dinner every night; but I have been starting to eat regular meals....not good.
