Why religion doesn’t make a moral society?

Most religions fail to inculcate morals in humans, I have seen people memorising scripture. I What I have never seen is - People who are religious realising how much their actions of hurt are hurting others around them. People prefer to ask for forgiveness to God rather than to correct their behaviour. This is more so in East than in West. I think so.

I think you are wrong Have you ever wonder of there is no religion? People would kill each other every second But thanks to religion, people tend to hold their temptation to kill one another

I don't know about East versus West but I do agree with you. Are religious people saying they are ONLY good because they fear God's wrath otherwise? While those without religion (or without the organised dogma that comes with certain faiths) are generally good people who are perfectly capable of knowing right from wrong without having to have a religion. As you say, some religious people do not realise how much their actions hurt others - of course, some might be well aware but think it's OK. It's also a fact that most ritualistic killings are done in the name of god (although many religions/religious people would try to convince you otherwise). I don't really have a faith or belief as such but don't feel that I need to have any superior being or special holy book to understand right from wrong and to be a good person.

There are only three words - You don’t hurt. This includes everything in morals. But no one teaches these words enough.

@Aakk77 I wouldn't say 'no one' teaches those words enough. I will say, however, that certain religions don't teach it. There are many faiths whose overall mantra is to do no harm. It is ironic that they are often also the faiths that are mocked or condemned by religions that do not teach the same.

@pumpkinjam I have seen this and studied this in india. Religious people hurt the surroundings and people much more. I am 45 years old, I don’t think such a long duration of study is all wrong. And this is irrespective of what their religion contains. Do you know anyone on earth who FULLY listens to the teachings of his practiced religion? It is that the people follow that which is convenient to them.

When religion becomes an ideology, that becomes dangerous.
