Okay, the country deluge is over. Today we also arrive at the most recent song on the monthlong list of favorites that have received a nomination for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards. (So yes, no Frozen II made the list.
) And will you look who is showing up?
(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again - Elton John and Taron Egerton
But of course Elton will show up if I get the opportunity.
This is such a joyous song. This is the 1970s Elton, the Elton who was my teenybopper idol, the walk-a-mile-in-my-tennis-shoes Elton.
Now, I haven’t seen Rocketman, because, since he was my teenybopper idol, I can annoy you with his story. Plus, he told his story so well on Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy that I can just pop that CD in anytime I want to “see” his story.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate it. Taron Egerton did a marvelous transformation into Elton, and he sang this with Elton at the movie’s closing credits.
And of course it won an Oscar. It was Elton’s second Oscar (having won previously with Tim Rice for The Lion King’s “Can You Feel the Love Tonight”), but EJ said this one meant more to him because his longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin got to share the award.
Just another accolade in the long, historic career of Sir Elton.
(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again
Written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin
Recorded by Elton John and Taron Egerton

I still haven't seen the movie myself! I'm glad Bernie got to share the award.

We need to get together and not see the movie.
Wait, that’s not right.
Elton was so elated for Bernie. You can tell he loves him like a brother.

@FourWalls You know what I didn't know until today? Bernie Taupin wrote Starship's "We Built This City"!

I’ve seen clips and I’m astonished at how much he looks like Elton in the movie.

I don't think I've ever heard it before.

It played at the end of the movie. You know, where you’re supposed to put a “filler” song because everyone’s leaving and not staying to read the credits. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

I’ve never seen Frozen, so nothing from the movie is on the countdown. Of course, there are a lot of movies on this list I haven’t seen…but I’ve never heard anything from that movie (that I know of).

I saw Rocketman right after I saw Bohemian Rhapsody, and I thought Rocketman was the better biopic by far. Bohemian Rhapsody did a good job of telling Queen's story, but I don't think it did as well telling Freddie's story. It seems like a pretty obvious conclusion that it helps when your subject is still alive to give input!

The other thing about Rocketman is that it’s not a “straight biopic,” but also features some “fantasy elements.” I think that, as you said, comes from Elton’s input (“Oh, what I could have done better”). I will get around to seeing it.

I get goosebumps when I see Elton perform live because I was unable to go to his final concerts in Cleveland. I saw Rocketman but for the life of me, can't remember it! I'm so glad Bernie was included in the award.
