Later this month, during this month-long look at my favorite songs nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, you’re going to see a song I post and ask “what is she thinking??????” Remember this song when that happens. I think this is the hardest rocking song on the list. Live and Let Die - Wings Yes, you Guns ‘n’ Roses fans, that song. And, for you older folks, that band of Paul McCartney’s after that band he was in before Wings. Here’s something interesting: although Casino Royale had an Oscar-nominated song from it (“The Look of Love,” and no, not the ABC song ), “Live and Let Die” was the first actual theme song from a Bond film to be nominated for an Academy Award. I’ve counted five Bond themes to be nominated, with three of them winning (all relatively recently). So I guess that puts this and Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better” (from The Spy Who Loved Me) in the minority! And NO, Shirley Bassey’s classic “Goldfinger” wasn’t nominated. Go figure. Anyway, this is one of Sir Paul’s rocking classic hits. The movie was the first one with Sir Roger Moore as James Bond. In the award, it lost to “The Way We Were.” I don’t know how well the movie holds up (I’m not a Bond fan), but I know the song has held up very well over the past 50 years. Live and Let Die Written by Paul and Linda McCartney Recorded by Wings From Live and Let Die, 1973 What does it matter to ya:

I knew that, and I loved the song. I did like Roger Moore's Bond, probably better than any of the rest of them.

@FourWalls I believe I saw all of Connery's Bond films and... maybe all of Moore's. But never was all that much into Bond... went with the family

I liked watching reruns of The Saint with Roger Moore when I was a teenager, but that never translated to going to see Bond movies.

A decent song. Definitely very popular at one time. I haven’t seen that movie or any of the bond movies.

Bond isn’t my cup of tea, either. McCartney, on the other hand, is just fine!!!

I don’t know that I’ve seen one all the way through. I may have seen a bit of one on TV, but never deliberately.

See? It’s not so impossible. Now, fess up: McCartney’s version or the G’n’R version?

I LOVE this song. I have a CD with all the first 12 Bond themes on it. Such a good CD. Maybe you could do a countdown of the best Bond movie hits.

I just did, because this and “Goldfinger” are the only two I really like. Maybe add “Nobody Does It Better” by Carly Simon. Glad you love this one. You’ll probably love today’s song, too, which is pretty much a total 180 from this one.

Awrite!!!! I’ve never seen the movie (the closest to Bond I’ve ever watched is the spy spoof Our Man Flint with James Coburn), but love the song.

Whatttt??? Goldfinger did not win the Oscar! That was a great song from one of the best Bond flicks em]thumbup[/em] Ba Ba Streisand beat out Paul? Nice song but come on! Yes, Paul's tune was a step up from "Yesterday and "Let it Be." Just goes to show he could rock with the best of them. Love the dual leads with John back in those early days of the Fab Four! And how about "I Saw Her Standing There." Paul's head shake says it all!
