I Am Taller Than A Flamingo

Hello. How are you all? A couple of weeks into 2023 and I've enjoyed my first break of the year. My husband and I went up north to visit my eldest son (Midi) for his birthday. We left the youngest at home as he didn't want to come with us. We stayed at a Premier Inn. It was Southport (Ormskirk) but it's actually in a tiny place call Scarisbrick, which is halfway between Southport and Ormskirk. Midi lives in Ormskirk. Husband and I arrived at the Premier Inn late afternoon on Friday. We didn't do much other than rest for the evening. We did give my youngest step-daughter a call as it was her birthday. Saturday was Midi's birthday. Husband and I spent the morning in Southport visiting a museum and having a slow, chilled day. In the evening, we met up with Midi and two of his friends for a meal at 'The Cricketers' - a food pub in Ormskirk. It was quite nice in there. A little loud and expensive but the food was lovely. Sunday, husband and I picked up Midi and took him to Martin Mere. That's a WWT (wildlife and wetland trust) place not far from Midi. He'd been there before. They'd had a case of avian flu so we weren't able to feed the wildfowl, and a couple of areas were closed. Midi and I were impressed at how shelducks can keep themselves looking so clean! We did see most of what was there. It was a cold day but not raining or anything. It was a nice place. We spent a couple of hours there before taking Midi home and myself and husband coming home. The picture I've added here was taken by Midi. As I'm not very tall, I was quite happy about being taller than a flamingo! How have you all been? I wonder if you're taller than a flamingo. I think the ones at Martin Merer are around 5 feet tall.

It really was lovely. Thank you! Yes, at 5 feet tall, you'll be about the same size as the flamingos (perhaps a little smaller than the greater flamingos - I think they can grow somewhat larger).

Thank you. I think Midi did a good job taking this one - he caught me in a natural pose. I didn't take any pictures of people. I did get a lot of the ducks and things, though.

It was a lovely break. My husband and I realised we hadn't had a short break away on our own since our honeymoon in 2019. Of course, this one was mainly to see Midi but it was nice to have a weekend getaway. We do like Premier Inn - my husband always wants to take the bed home with us! Our next booked break will be for my husband's birthday in May (he doesn't know yet). We'll be going to Weston-Super-Mare. I couldn't book the place we used to go so I've booked a bed and breakfast - hoping it will live up to the reviews. We might possibly be going to Hastings in April for a family member's 50th birthday but we need to check on the affordability and logistics of that first! Where are you going? And is it for something special? And thank you. I think I look alright - even with the crows feet!

@pumpkinjam We're going to Bristol, just for one night. Mainly because we have to take Big One to an event nearby on the Sat and pick her up on the Sun so it made sense to avoid so much driving and have a little break instead. I like Bristol.

I peaked at 5' 8" or 5' 9"" but am probably shrinking due to old age.
