Robotic harvesters.

Has seen a video of a robotic machine that can pick 60 apples per minute in farms. The technology is so accurate that it only picks ripe apples and of a particular size and grades them. It replaces the need to have farm hands picking fruits on the farm. This is an advanced form of the previous harvesters and soon everything will be done via artificial intelligence. What does the future holds for the farm workers?

Maybe 30 per minute instead of 60?

There are other high performing ones apart from this.

Like many industries across the world, Australia's fruit-picking sector has been impacted heavily by the COVID-19 pandemic, creating a massive void in the labor market that would normally be filled by backpackers looking to make buck on the road. Local res

as a person who lives in an agricultural part of california, ive been telling people that the day will come when they get automated out of thier jobs on the sorting line, then the harvesting line. some growers have started to experiment with some sort of "robotic" machinery already in the past few years. lettuce, onions, corn, watermelons, cantalopes, and so on. every year i see fewer manual labor in the fields.

@MakOwiti - just like the fast food restaurants. some farming vehicles now need people to have a moderate understanding of computers to drive .

I knew robots were coming, just had no idea farm workers are losing their jobs.

I have also researched and I have found the same as our Admin. The most advanced machine (the Californian Advanced. Farm's harvesting robot) can pick 30 apples per minute, not 60.

I guess robotic machines will replace farm workers eventually. Farm workers need to find another job to make a living. May be selling the produce.

I agree with you. Its high time workers look for other options. I Amazon most tasks including selecting, packing and labeling is done by robots.
