I woke up early so I have some people remodeling a house on TV instead of listening to news.
I love what they do there and how they remodel with what they casll an open concept while I realise that I could never have that in my house.
We live in a country that has many big earthquakes so our way of building our houses have ti take that into account. Our houses are made with brick and concrete (béton armé is called in French). And because of that, houses are usually smaller. Still, I know that we don´t need a giant kitchen to cook good food.
Many people in other places have giant kitchens and call fast food restaurants to have food brought to their houses.
I have made awesome food for 30 people in my house for my birthday. I celebrated my birthday with my friends and family until the covid began. I then asked my friends to bring the liquid (liquors, wine and coca cola and the like) while I took care of the rest.
And for a long time I have had back proplems so I have made roasted meats in the small electric over the counter oven instead of bending to use the big gas oven. I bake a rather small turkey breast, a pork loin and a roast beef, one by one. I cut them thinly with the electric knife and serve it with different salads and rice.
The only "bought" food is a wonderful chocolate cake that reminds me of a wonderful aunt I had. She was the one who cut the cake in every party and they were so thin that we could always have seconds if we wished.
I can fully understand the difference between a house and a home. I live in a home full of memories. My electric oven is a hand me down I acquired when my mom changed her old one. And while it is very old, I would not change it for the world.
Do you have gadgets with a history that makes you be more attached to them? I have a thingy that takes the cork out of wine bottles that my mom bought in the US when I was 11. The steel the was so much better that I still have it.
I´ll go for my coffee and will then read your posts.

Our actual house is not small, I would say big for only two people, but I like it. The kitchen is a goo size, but I have cooked during 31 years in a very small kitchen in Monte Carlo. I had guests and the food I cooked was delicious. My husband used to call that small kitchen "the miracle kitchen". I do not like open space houses.

My house is too big for myself now but it is a 2 floor house. So when my knees started bothering me too much, I "moved" to the first floor. I have my books and the guest rooms in the second floor and only go up when I want a book or to check how clean it all is before Anita comes for a through cleaning.

@marguicha My grandmother did the same years ago. When the stairs were too much for her, she moved to the 2nd floor of the house and only went down when she needed to go out.

I like watching those shows too, and then I have my kitchen, nowhere near as big as the ones on TV. I can do a lot in my kitchen too. It works for any size crowd.
I don't have hand-me-downs in my kitchen, but I have tables, one that belonged to my grandmother, and one that belonged to my parents. It brings back memories each time I sit at those tables.

I´m using half of my house now. I live alone and don´t like stairs. So I have moved to the first floor.

@wolfgirl569 You can+t sell a house here if it is not empty. But there are places that receive many of your things for free. First I would have to ask my people if they want something though.

Lately, during the covid, I decided that I would not invite so many people at once. I´ll invite at the most 8 people at a time so that I can have a nice time and not get too tired.

I don't care for open concept houses. I like individual rooms. We don't have anything with a real history except for a couple of pieces of furniture from my in-law's house.

I have several old things but none of them could be called antiques. They just stay with the "old" word.. Anyway I love them.

I enjoyed your memories. I have lived in the same house for 32 years. So many memories of my late husband and raising my kids here. An electric bread machine sits on a top shelf in the kitchen. I'll probably never use it, but my husband loved making bread for all of us. I'm not ready to get rid of it.
