Old Cowboy at the Cancer Clinic

Well, he looked like an old cowboy with the Stetson hat, snap front shirt and that look I remember well from summers in small town west Texas as a kid. He was there with his wife (of many years, I'm sure). She was the patient, he was moral support. They sat for a bit while I was waiting for labs as well. I'd got my blood drawn, went upstairs and they were up soon too. She was a short little lady, maybe both of them were in their 70s of even 80s. She had this sweet expression on her face and a really old fashioned hair do too. Oh, the one thing that ruined the man's cowboy look were the athletic sneakers he had on when I was expecting some old, worn boots. I had better explain what I was doing at the clinic. For some years now, i have had more white corpuscles than red ones in my blood. It is so far, not a big problem. For about three years now, I have taken a prescription once every other day that keeps them in better balance. I go to the clicnic every three months to have my blood checked. This time there was improvement over last time, and I feel as well as I ever did so there are no worries. The amazing thing is that the blood is drawn and you see the doctor about 15 minutes later. He has a full read out of the results.

Now a days, going to the doctors is so different than the old days. Back then we had to wait forever to get the results of things. Now, we can get the results the same day.

@LadyDuck Thanks Anna. I had a rough year but hopefully everything is changing for the better. As I was recovering my husband had an accident and was laid up for almost the entire year and had to have his complete knee replaced. He is almost ready to get back to work this month. We will find out this week. Of course I had to take over everything as he could barely walk. My favorite saying is "this too shall pass". It will be so great when he gets back to work as I can get into spring cleaning and some yardwork. I hope you are well. I plan on being here more often. I am happy to hear from you.

Except for the sneakers that guy could have been my Dad.

@JamesHxstatic One of my Oh GAWD junior high moments: sitting in a classroom. Outside on the sidewalk, walked a tall skinny cowboy, right out of the movies. A boy said: "GOD! Who's that??" I did not speak up and say "My Dad!"

In our days we get the results immediately. My husband also went for a blood work (at his doctor office), while we were talking with his doctor, the nurse cam back with the full read of the results.

@JamesHxstatic - Absolutely, back in the past we had to wait for weeks before knowing the results of a simple test and those were not even accurate.

Glad to hear you are doing better. It’s amazing how wonderful modern science is. Stay well! I agree the sneakers ruined the look, but he was probably more worried about his wife than his look.

It is really amazing, isn't it? I went to a new dentist, they asked the name of the old one (200 miles away) and in about three minutes they had a complete list of all my treatments. Just incredible.

Amazing how fast the process sometimes works. Glad the meds are helping you. Take care of yourself. And I agree, old worn out boots sounded appropriate.

It is so cool that they can get all your info about your blood test so quickly. This cowboy guy sounds smart to wear athletic sneakers instead of cowboy boots. In my opinion, the boots are so uncomfortable. It is good to hear that your blood situation has improved. That's a good thing. And, that there is a pill you can take to improve the cell count.

Wishing you a quick recovery from your disease. You can take beetroot and water melon whenever you can to increase the RBCs. This will bring a balance with the WBCs.

This goes back about 20 years now and is under control with the one medication. I will certainly eat watermelon when it is available locally. Thanks for the good wishes.
