Hi from Alabama! It rained so I got off the road early. New day, new adventures. Oh, yeah, and a new song! Here’s the closest I can get to the top of favorites from the list of Academy Award-nominated songs without being at the top. I told you I was sappy…. #2: Rainbow Connection - Kermit the Frog Oh, quick note to the people who weren’t around in 1973 for Dark Side of the Moon: this has nothing to do with gay pride. If frogs couldn’t hop, I’d be gone with the Schwinn. (Kermit the Frog) The things Muppets can get away with. The running jokes in this movie (“It’s a myth.” “Yeth?” “I’m lost.” “Have you tried Hare Krishna?” ) are things you won’t get in another movie. I’ll bet you didn’t know that the Muppets got started, not on Sesame Street, but on The Jimmy Dean Show. Rowlf the Dog was a featured performer on the program five years before anyone wanted to know how to get to the land of the Big Bird. From there they got their own TV series and then their own movies! This great song lost to “It Goes Like It Goes” from Norma Rae. I don’t remember that song, to tell you the truth (Jennifer Warnes sang it in the movie, and Dusty Springfield did it after it won the Oscar. But I don’t remember it). In contrast, I remember this one so very well. And I love it so very much. Even if a frog sings it! Rainbow Connection Written by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher Recorded by Jim Henson (Kermit the Frog) From The Muppet Movie, 1979 I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it:

Kermit singing makes me realize I can’t say “I’ve got a frog in my throat” to explain my poor singing.

I have an Animal hand puppet, but you have to love Kermit. He’s the leader!

I loved Sesame Street as much as the kids did but I also liked the Australian production Play School. It was much less sophisticated but still a lot of fun.

“Much less sophisticated” is perfect for an old hillbilly like me.

@FourWalls Some of our most famous TV and film stars started in Play School. It's all make believe and hands on with cardboard and boxes, etc. I think there was one doll and one bear and that was about it.

This ranks right up there with country music. I don't remember It Goes Like It Goes either.

In the minority once again, not a muppet fan. But I don't mind being in the small crowd. Enjoy Alabama!

Oh, I absolutely LOVE this tune. One of my grandsons would play it over and over, he loved watching it on youtube as well. My favorite line, ' Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection, the lovers, the dreamers, and me.'

Yes indeed! The Muppets have that rare ability to appeal to the kids while, in essence, being an adult show.
