A bonus tonight at our movie night

We went to the free movies (DVDs) at the clubhouse tonight and watched the film, Elvis. I enjoyed it very much. Tom Hanks was pretty incredible as usual and it was good to see two Australian actors in the film, David Wenham and Richard Roxburgh. For some reason it surprised me but it shouldn’t have as Baz Luhrmann wrote the screenplay and also directed, and he is an Australian. Before the show, we were all given Toblerone bars, thanks to the social club which arranges all sorts of fun things for the village residents. On film nights, we all gather at the clubhouse about 6.30pm. Most take a drink of some sort and we sit and chat until the film starts at 7pm.

I don't like Toblerone, but I'll eat it if I have to...

If there is no Lindt, I'll settle for Toblerone.

I loved that movie. Yes, Tom Hanks did an excellent job as Colonel Parker. I'm happy to see it got nominations for the Oscars.

@JudyEv True. There was a lot of makeup for him to look like that. I agree, he was amazing.

He was amazing. I can't decide if he really looks like that now or if it was all make-up and padding. (I'm talking about his face.)

Was that the newest Elvis movie that came out? It had Austin Butler as Evis. I haven't seen it. I like Toblerone. I used to give them to my nephews in their stockings at Christmas, when they were teen agers.

Yes, that's the newest one. It was very good but of course there was ever only one Elvis.

I've just been watching the 'real' Elvis on YouTube. Very nostalgic.

That’s cool! Those two chocolate bars would’ve cost you about $15 in a US movie house. Glad you enjoyed the film.

It's amazing how much pleasure it gives. Occasionally, we'll all get a drumstick (ice-cream) and we all ooh and aah as though we've been given a small fortune. Small things please old people.

Not had Toblerone for a while now Remembered not buying it at a shop in Melbourne as they were beyond the expiry date but later was told it was safe to eat them. And they were being sold for a song. Lost a good bargain.

@JudyEv More because people prefer those that have expiry dates that did not expire

There is probably some leeway on expiration dates but that would have been why they were cheap.

That sounds interesting but I'm not sure I'd enjoy having people so close all the time. I like not knowing all the neighbors around us. Most don't even wave if we drive down the street. They don't recognize us any more than we'd recognize them if we saw each other in the grocery store.

Fair enough but apart from the movies and an occasional social occasion, we really don't see a lot of each other. Some catch up weekly for coffee or whatever but a lot keep to themselves.

I know it's best for us but I miss the space too. The house-sitting has been a godsend for me. I get back here then start counting the days till we can leave again. Not quite that bad but nearly.

I have of course always heard of Toblerone, but I am not sure I have ever had one. Either way, Tom Hanks is one of my favorite actors and I can't think of much he has been in that wasn't good. Elvis will be on my list...but of course I will wait until it winds up on streaming one day.

I don't know where my last comment went but whatever. Tom looked so old in this - puffy face, overweight. The overweight bit would be easy to fake but surely the puffy face would be a bit harder. At times, it was hard to recognise him.

@JudyEv I wonder if some of it was CG or makeup to make him more suitable to the role?
