New month, new countdown! Here we go into February with 28 days of television theme music. Some of these were hits, and some were just on the TV shows. But all are great in my books! Let’s get started.
The Addams Family - Victor Mizzy
Ironic that this starts the month, given that Lisa Loring, who played Wednesday Addams, passed away earlier this week. In fact, there’s only one cast member left: 92-year-old John Astin.
Back in the 60s there were these “arguments” of sorts: Beatles or Stones. Jeannie or Bewitched. And The Munsters or The Addams Family. For me, Gomez and company won that part of the discussion hands down. (I also preferred Bewitched. I like both the Beatles and the Stones.)
So here’s some worthless trivia for you: Thing, although billed as “Itself,” was actually Ted Cassidy’s hand. If there was a scene where Lurch and Thing were together then someone else played the role, but most of the time it was Cassidy.
And the headstands that Gomez always did while reading his paper and smoking a cigar? That was real. Astin is a Buddhist and has practiced yoga poses for ages, so he was perfectly capable of doing that.
As for the theme, where (snap snap) it’s one of the most iconic (snap snap) themes in television.
A good place to start the month!

@spiderdust — I have not. But then, I just watched my first episodic TV show in 31 years last night.

Have you or your family seen the latest "Wednesday" series? They pay homage to the iconic *snap *snap without having to pay royalties to use the song. They have several clever nods to the original series (although I know a large amount of the inspiration came from the comic).

Wow! John Astin is still alive. And cousin It deceased? How could that be? I better practice some of those yoga poses, lol. Gomez was the best!
P.S. The theme song is a big thumbs up We all get a little "kooky now and then."

@FourWalls Ha, ha! Thanks for that Frankie was a "cool cat."
Night court was a can't miss program for me. What a terrific comedic cast they were...

Yes, created by Charles Addams (hence the spelling of the name).

I agree, I liked this show more than The Munsters (although I do enjoy Fred Gwynne as an actor).

@FourWalls LOL!! That movie is where I learned that no true Southerner uses quick grits.
(Although they will, especially if they are pressed for time and have to get kids out of the door fed and on the bus. They just know the slow cooked kind are better.)

It was a comedy takeoff of horror movies.

Shows like that lose their luster quickly. Probably why it and The Munsters only lasted three seasons.

i only heard this morning that Lisa Loring had passed away so it's ironic that this is your choice for today. I was a big fan of the Adams Family so as soon as I saw your title I heard the song in my head. Great bunch of trivia about the show none of which I knew

I think Cousin Itt was billed as “Ittself.” That was Felix Silla, who passed away in 2021.

I honestly did not know that Lisa Loring had passed away, so sad to hear that. I wonder why it wasn't mentioned on the news like other deaths usually are, seems a little strange. I live in the UK and I can't say I saw it on the news or if it was, it was quietly posted.
As for the theme song, everyone knows that theme even if they never watched the Addams Family, it is such an iconic theme and now with it being heavily used during Halloween as well it's why so many have heard it but don't know where it's from.
