We turn not older with years, but newer every day. ---------------Emily Dickinson Many people think I'm addicted to growing older. "Sir," They say, "This is getting serious. You've been getting older every day for 28 straight years ((At that point, they burst into uncontrollable laughter for some reason)). Starting tomorrow, it'll be 29 ((That triggers even more laughter for some reason, though I see nothing funny about it)). We think you have a problem. And many other problems. You should get help. Lots of it." My question is, "Does it really count as an addiction if you have no control over it? Doesn't that make it a disease?" I'd be able to answer it if I were a Fancy Big City Addictions Specialist instead of a Simple Country Gynecologist. The search for answers to this question, and many others, continues.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY. We do not get old, we become "vintage" aging and we gain importance.

Thank you, Anna. I wonder how much more importance I can handle.

@LadyDuck I understand completely. It's hard to get excited about getting older.

I’ve been authorized by the Jack Benny Forever 39 Committee to wish you a happy 27th birthday, and to remind you that it’s only 12 days until the big Jack Benny 39th Birthday Bash.

Thank you, Karen, and thank Greyhound for Jack being 39 instead of me. 27 is plenty rough enough.

@xander6464 — we’ll get you safely to 28, so you don’t ever have to worry about joining that “27 club” with Janis, Jimi, etc.

You quoted Dickenson, which grabbed my attention. Growing older isn't terrible. I thought it would be, but in growing older I have done a lot of reflecting on my life, sure there were a lot of boulders to move out of the way, but people do not realize that as we age, we have something we didn't have in our youth--experiences, and knowledge. The main problem with growing older is people who are younger often do not listen to us, because we ARE older than they are. I have never stopped learning or experiencing life, and I don't plan on stopping either until I am no longer breathing. I always liked Einstein's quote about growing old--and he's right. “Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the Great Mystery into which we were born.” He's right. Stay curious, like a child. Have the happiest of birthdays!

@xander6464 As we pass through the years, they will show on our body. That's just fact. Keep your heart and your spirit young forever, as that is what truly matters.
