THERE It Is!

The water is the big attraction in Florida. Maybe #2, behind that rodent in Orlando. 
Well it’s one of the things I come for. And today, I saw it.
St. George Island is a small strip of land between Apalachicola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. St. George Island State Park is at the northern part of this little peninsula. Quite simply, it’s amazing.
What do you want? White sandy beaches? Check! Picnic pavilions? Got it! How about campgrounds near the water? 
Plus the beautiful white-sand dunes!
The separation between the bay and the Gulf was maybe a third of a mile, accessible by a handicap-friendly, elevated walkway (which also helps keep the gators at bay). Walking along the beach,, or through the trees to reach the bay, or both, is refreshing to every sense.
I spent over an hour there, enjoying the calm (it was mostly cloudy, with a couple of peeks of sun here and there) that you’re just not going to be able to experience on a Florida beach in a month.

I’m here at the perfect time. In a couple of weeks the spring training baseball fans will start coming to Florida, then the spring break kids. If Florida has an “off season” I’m here for it. Which is fine with me!

@FourWalls February has been my favorite time for Florida, wonderful weather and temperature and not too crowded.

@ifa225 — we have hurricanes (typhoons as they are known in other parts of the world), but they are not a constant thing. It’s winter in the northern hemisphere so it’s not “hurricane season.” Tsunamis are triggered by earthquakes, but Florida is not in the so-called “ring of fire” for earthquakes and accompanying tsunamis the way the west coast of the United States is.

That description reminds me of Sanibel Island minus all the eateries and attractions. But even those were fun and interesting to see. Yes, nothing like those Florida beaches and sea birds and other wildlife!

I have a friend who always vacations there, and I really hope and pray they can get it restored quickly. I hate what that hurricane did to the area.
