A book that was titled "How Wars Begin" which was written by A J P Taylor that was supposed to be returned to the Newport News Public Library in Virginia on March 23, 1980 did not return to the library until on Wednesday. The librarians inside of the library were amazed when on Wednesday, the book was returned to the drop box area. Since the library book that was returned did not have any notes of why the book was not returned or a note, the library officials will not fine the person who checked the book almost 43 years ago. That’s amazing , that would take a mint of money to pay the over due fees.

That's a long time to have a library book on your shelves. At least it's been returned now.

Glad he wasn't fined. This is the second story on an overdue book. Are they starting a trend?

I am afraid so that some persons have this bad habit of not returning overdue books to the library.

@celticeagle You have a good point that some persons who check out library books forget that other customers want to read the book as well.

That is very interesting and I bet that person did the book drop so they would not get fined,

That is true since the person who returned the overdue was fearful to pay the late fees.

I guess he decided to return the book after he found iit. We had a book amnesty program where you can return books that are overdue and not pay fees. His fees probably would have been 100,000 dollars plus interest

The late fee would have very high if the library did not waive the fee for being checked back in almost 43 years later.

These things happen from time to time. I wonder if the book was found somewhere; and the person said, "Oops! I better return this!!!"?
