I have an old computer that I dug out of the closet and it started up but it wants to know the password I used and I have no idea what it was has anyone have some ideas on how to find it,I'm not sure if I will ever use it as it is about 10 years old but I would like to know what is on it

I believe you can bring it to some place where they can actually retrieve the files from the hard drive(s) of that old computer like drivesaversdatarecovery which you can search online. I guess if ever you do get to access that old computer, and find files worth to back-up on, you might need to prepare another hard drive for those files to transfer into.

I suppose it is the operating system that asks for a password. To know how to recover the password you must know which system the computer is running. You can find online how to recover a Windows password... with Linux is a lot more complicated.
