Had my MRI Scan last night. I didn't know it was THAT small!

So I had my MRI Scan last night. It was really helpful that the two people taking my scans were REALLY nice. I wasn't scared. But I was a little nervous. I really thought they were going to scan my whole spine. But it was just the neck. But that's ok. I may ask my doctor for a whole spine scan later. I walked into the other room where the MRI was. When I saw it, I became a little bit more nervous as I thought the tunnel was just a little bit bigger. There was a woman and a man waiting for me and the dude asked me if I would like to listen to some music. I was surprised as I didn't know you could do that. I asked him if I could please listen to Michael Jackson. I laid down and was given earplugs as well as headphones to listen to music. The dude gave me a buzzer in case I wanted to get out. They put something over my face (I don't know what it was for exactly - to keep my head still?) and I think the dude saw on my face I was worried so he asked me if I was ok and told me that I could hear him talking to me in the headphones. I liked that because my dad told me his experience was an automated voice talking which I didn't want. I wanted a real person to guide me. As I was going inside, I actually did start to feel a tad of panic. But I just closed my eyes and kept reminding myself that it's going to be alright. I kept on switching between calm and anxious. He asked me after each scan how I was. I was thankful for that. I didn't tell him I wanted to get the hell out. I just kept saying "I'm ok thank you." I was distracting myself listening to Michael and thinking about the dances in the music videos cause I know them well. Got to listen to Billie Jean, Smooth Criminal, The Way You Make Me Feel, Beat It and Thriller. And then I was done. The experience wasn't too bad. I would do it again if I had to but I can't say I loved it. At the moment, my lower back is aching as well as right under my right shoulder blade. So not feeling great today. My doctor should have results next week some time but I also need to get an Ultra-Sound on my rib-cage to check out those painful lumps. That appointment is on the 17th. Not looking forward to that! Ever since having these lumps, Ultra-Sounds have never been easy for me. I will be sure to update you all on the results. I'm hoping I get some answers so I know what to do to fix this. I can't take the pains and sickness anymore.

Yes, the thing over your face was to keep your head still. They didn't want your neck/head to move while they were scanning you. I opted for silence while my shoulder was getting scanned years ago. I didn't like the tube but I had to get the scan done anyway. I hope everything turns out well on your scan.

@DaddyEvil It's a nice and interesting invention. I didn't move but I was swallowing a lot at one point cause I felt like I couldn't breath and I'm almost certain it was the reason for a scan being redone. Every other time when I didn't swallow, it was fine. I am glad they did what you requested. So much better to just feel as comfortable as you can in those things! Thank you so much!

@VivaLaDani13 You're welcome. The techs running the machine forgot I opted for silence so were talking about my scans as they did them. I could hear everything they said.... They became excited when they saw that I had hairline breaks in my left collarbone. Apparently, the doctor told them I was faking it being broken to get out of work.

@DaddyEvil ................First of all................Sorry it was forgotten about you wanting silence. But secondly, my jaw dropped when I read what your doctor apparently said! That is disgusting! I am so mad! I HATE when doctors do that bull$hit! I had that issue when I desperately needed my gallbladder out. Though I was scared of surgery, the surgeon declined it as he believed the sickness and pains were all in my head. He told me this after he found out I had depression. He should be ashamed! My blood tests and scans showed many times over that my gallbladder was struggling and was starting to affect my liver! Did you see that doctor afterwards? Oh I am so angry! You poor thing!

MRIs and CT scans used to be much bigger. They're getting smaller, just like everything else. Hoping they find out what's going on.

@VivaLaDani13 You're very welcome. Have had quite a few CTs and MRI's in my lifetime. Maybe one of the reasons they are getting smaller is to conserve room? Or new technology is being made smaller? The first time I saw/had a CT scan I was about 5 or 6 years old, and I saw someone having one through a window in the wall. I was freaked! I think I thought the big machine was eating the person or something!

@xstitcher I wonder what the reason is. How curious! Thank you so very kindly!

23 Feb 23
@xstitcher Those could be the reasons. I know technology is constantly upgrading and improving so that could be why. aww that is so sad! I know this was when you were a child but I'm so sorry you thought that back then! Poor thing!

They place that thing over your face to keep the head still. I know it's not pleasant, but it's not too bad and you are in contact with the guy all the time, so you know you can ask to stop if you are panicking.

@VivaLaDani13 I agree that knowing that we are in contact the whole time is reassuring. I would panic if left alone.

@LadyDuck I felt more assured knowing we were in contact the whole time. If I was to have it again, I don't think I will feel as bad as I have done it before. Not pleasant but 100% worth it to know what's going on.

It sounds like you did a wonderful job. I am told that the MRI machines can cause panic in a patient. I dislike ultrasounds too, they are uncomfortable, and they are much more invasive than the MRI. I had one done on my abdomen and I felt like it took quite a long time as they were checking a few of my organs.

@VivaLaDani13 I had an ultrasound on my abdomen and it showed multiple floating gall stones. I am seeing a surgeon next month as my family doctor referred me to have my gall bladder removed. Apparently gall stones can lead to cancer he told me.

@Juliaacv oh I never heard that before! Either way I am thankful you're going to have it removed. It's so much better without it! I am glad to no longer have gallbladder attacks after getting mine out. I'm wishing you all the very best with surgery and recovering when it gets done!

@Juliaacv aw thank you! I can understand why. When my poor Nanny had one for her shoulder last year, she came out looking so pale and she was shaking. I grabbed her hand instantly to hold her and let her know it was ok and how good she did. Was upsetting to see her like that. I hope everything was alright regarding your ultra-sounds but yeah sometimes the positions are uncomfortable. Especially when they need to press hard.

I'm not claustrophobic by any means, but being inside that little space in an MRI machine is unsettling. And even with music on, you can still hear the loud noise of the machine doing its job. Thankfully, the last two MRI's I had done were in new modern "open air" MRI's. I felt much more comfortable in that machine than in the traditional closed-in machine. And of course, the more they told me to lay still and not move, the more my body wanted to twitch and move! haha

@moffittjc I'm so glad it was the more open one for you the last two times. It's also quite unsettling because you don't have the power to take yourself out. I mean yes you get given that buzzer but the power to you actually sliding out is in the hands of others. That is what kinda bothered me. I don't know about you. oh yes lol being told to be still gives me anxiety. I worried about getting an itch!

@just4him Thank you. I didn't really think much of it until I was actually inside there. I thought it was a little bit bigger! I'm sorry you weren't offered any! What would you have listened to if you could listen to something? Would you even want to listen to some music while being in there?
