Well, that’s quite a shock. I go from shorts to sweatshirts AND heavy jackets in a day! Changes in latitude, as Jimmy Buffett said. While I drink hot tea to warm up I’ll soothe my post-vacation blues with another TV theme song that ranks among my favorites. Here’s today’s croaker.
The Muppet Show Theme - The Muppets
And you’re probably thinking, hey, didn’t you just use them in the last countdown? Why, yes I did! Thanks for noticing.
A show that was simultaneously a send-up of a variety show AND a good variety show on its own. It had great skits (“Pigs in Space” and “The Swedish Chef”) and the gamut of guest stars (from people like Alice Cooper, Willie Nelson, and Elton John, who all looked pretty “normal” sitting next to a bunch of Muppets , to Beverly Sills and Linda Ronstadt). One review called it “the only adult show on television.”
They sure came a long way from a dog on Jimmy Dean’s TV show, didn’t they!
The Muppet Show Theme
Written by Jim Henson and Sam Pottle

From The Muppet Show, 1975-80
It’s time to put on make-up:

Well I never! (Okay, I did…busted. )
No more Muppets…but there is country music forthcoming.

So lovable, despite my Mom saying they were silly.

Of course it was silly, that was why we watched it! Where else were you gonna see Elton John singing “Crocodile Rock” with a bunch of crocodiles????

What child of the 70s and 80s didn't grow up singing along to that song! I loved watching the Muppet Show as a kid, and a few years back I bought the entire DVD collection for my own kids to watch. They thought it was hilarious, although for the most part they didn't really know who many of the guest stars were. But they are now huge Muppet fans!

Yeah, Beverly Sills doesn’t translate well into the Hanson generation.
