Super Bowl Food

This morning, one of the kids asked me if I was planning to make Super Bowl food again tomorrow (with the implication that they really wanted me to make some). I hadn't planned on even turning on the game tomorrow because we aren't really invested in the teams who are playing, so I didn't have any special food planned for it. But I guess it means a lot more to the kids than I realized and they like me making food for it, even if we're only watching the commercials and the halftime show, so now I'm trying to figure out what to make at the last minute. I do have a package of little smokies in the freezer, so I could do something with those. We did just have hot dogs for dinner last night, but they'd probably not mind them again. I could do the tiny hot dog buffet like I did for New Year's Eve, although I'd need either some buns to cut up or some Hawaiian sweet rolls. I have a can of chili in the pantry and a package of American cheese slices that I got for free from work. I could make chili queso dip in the little crockpot and they could enjoy it with the unopened bag of tortilla chips that I also have on hand. The 14 year old mentioned 7 layer dip, but I don't know if I have all the ingredients for that and not everyone enjoys it. Maybe the chili queso dip will be a decent compromise, especially if I make some guacamole. I don't have any taquitos or bagel bites anymore; we ate those for lunch a few days ago and I'm not buying more right now. I could certainly make a cheese and cracker tray, as I have lots of small cheeses from the cheese advent calendar that I got for Christmas. I can't really make deviled eggs, as eggs are at a premium right now. I do have meat left from a rotisserie chicken and some cream cheese... I could make some chicken/bacon/ranch/cheese rollups or pinwheels using tortillas, or I could even make a dip using those ingredients and using pita chips to scoop it up. I just realized that if I get rolls, I could make ham & cheese sliders in the oven. Oh, wait! I might actually have roll dough in the freezer, which would mean I could avoid going to the store entirely! Do you eat special food for the Super Bowl or other televised sporting events?

All of that sounds really good! I've never watched the Super Bowl. I'm just not into sports at all... We don't even have a television that could pick it up if we wanted to watch it. I'm sure everyone will be happy with whatever you make for them to eat. I hope you enjoy yourselves.

@spiderdust I wonder if your kids care of if they just wanted the buffet meal?

I'm not really interested in the Super Bowl myself, and I didn't think the kids were either. I don't even know who's playing! I think it's the Kansas City Chiefs and... some other team. I just know it's not our local team because they lost the playoffs recently and most of my coworkers were sad.

I'm sure your kids enjoy your food - it IS special to them ! We are not into football, but we do watch Superbowl - if only for the commercials and half time show (though I'm not sure who's even doing it this year ). But I didn't really plan anything this year in the way of food except for a homemade nacho cheese dip recipe I wanted to try.

@spiderdust Chicken dip with Coke in it would be too sweet. But I love cilantro.

@RebeccasFarm Buffalo wings aren't my favorite, but I'll eat them. I like garlic parmesan or teriyaki wings the best, and I like dry rub ones a lot too.

I love little smokies, wrapped with bacon and drizzled with maple syrup-very, very addictive. Whatever you prepare I am sure that it will be enjoyed, you have alot of good ideas.

@spiderdust I have had them that way also where I pat some brown sugar on the bacon before I wrap it. It tastes good, but it is a sticky mess for whoever makes them.

I was looking at a recipe a few minutes ago for little bacon wrapped smokies that are sprinkled with brown sugar before baking.

Nope. I do not even look for the game. I am in the right neighborhood to root for the Chiefs, though.

That is quite a mighty meal.I don't have big meals for televised events. Only on special occasion like birthday or thanksgiving.

@spiderdust Yes indeed the football fanatics would consider it a special event.

I do, I wasn't planning on a big spread this year though as I don't have the cash and also only friend was going to be here, but I told him not to come because of the weather..but I did buy some sliders...and will make some brownies, bought a few chips and have some dips I can have with veggies as well.
