What can you not resist buying?

There are things that tempt us so much it’s better to avoid going and shopping to avoid them.
I have a hard time resisting baby clothes and children’s books.
My sister has a hard time passing up shoes.
My mother can’t resist Corelle plates and bowls.
For these reasons we limit how often we go to the thrift store my daughter works at because they have so many good things for us to look at that are so tempting.
Photo is unrelated and is of the new glass pitcher my husband bought to make tea in. I probably would have looked for a fancier one if it had been me.

Looks like a nice sun tea pitcher. I have to buy a t-shirt on vacation. Got one from Cedar Key this time around.

@FourWalls When I was young I had to buy a postcard to collect from every where I went.

Some on my can't-resist list (even moreso if they are on sale days at thrift stores): children's books, pyrex anything, dresses (clothing in general for all of us), big platters, tablecloths, small shoulder purses . . . stop me .

@much2say I love shopping at thrift stores. I think they are the most tempting places for me to buy things though. So many interesting things to look at and you never know what treasure you will find that someone else didn’t want!
I have a few Pyrex bowls that were my grandparents. I love them!

@much2say nothing is made as well as they used to be so I wouldn’t doubt it. These were either able to be used in the oven or on the stovetop I can’t remember which. They had handles that could be clipped on to them. I don’t think I have the handles I’ve never used them anyway.

@shaggin I love thrift shops too. There are lots of cool stuff that you can get for way less than new prices. I call it a treasure hunt too . . . so much fun!!
Wow, Pyrex from your grandparents! I have read that the vintage Pyrex are actually stronger than the newer ones. They are so useful to me in the kitchen!

I love to buy books, too. How do you make tea in the new pitcher?

@allknowing that must be upsetting but I have broken a few myself. They definitely are much harder to break than other dish brands though.
My mother is like you with chocolate. She used to eat a bag of Twix every day the big bags.

@allknowing my husband likes to put his in the freezer and eats it hard and cold that way. I can’t taste the flavor of it when it’s like that.

@Juliaacv oh I much prefer shopping in person too. Some things are cheaper to buy online or I need them in a hurry or can’t find them in stores then I’ll buy them online but I like to go to stores and touch what I am thinking of buying. It’s just not easy to tell sizes and things online.

@Juliaacv I actually hate shopping! I dread it! The only time I enjoy it is for buying books and baby stuff for my daughter.
I own one pair of shoes I’m guessing like my sister you own many? I don’t carry a purse just a diaper bag or canvas reusable shopping bag so classy I know .

If there are book shelves, I always have to look through them but can usually talk myself out of buying more... We've already emptied all the books out of the house into plastic totes in the garage. We don't have room for physical books in this house. (I also have over 6,000 ebooks on my phone. I've read about half of them, I think. )

@Daddyevil I usually don’t even look at the books for adults because it’s so tempting and I have too many and too little time today. I did almost buy one for myself today but Jodi Picoult but I put it back. Mainly because I didn’t know if I had read it or not and can go back another day with the .50 if I haven’t .

My weaknesses are books and yarn. I have plenty of both yet always looking for more
I love dishes too and just recently talked myself out of buying a new set. Sheets are also on my "hard to resist" shopping excursions.

@Marilynda1225 are you picky about the brand of dishes? My mother just likes Corelle. Do you only buy new sheets or used ones at thrift stores? I only buy new ones.

@Marilynda1225 ahh okay so you aren’t terribly picky then and don’t have to have them all identical. Corelle is really good at holding up for being light weight it’s very surprising.

@shaggin the newest set of dishes that I have are Temptations from QVC and I love them but they're stoneware and heavy. When my mom was living with me we got a set of Corelle and she liked them because they were lightweight and I liked them because they were unbreakable if she dropped one. I also have a few mismatched plates that I got at the Dollar Tree just because I liked them.
As for sheets I always buy new.

@DianneN I have a harder time at the thrift store my daugher works at than anywhere else. You never know what you will find and some things are so beautiful. I have to talk myself out of a lot of things that would just be decorations and not really useful.

I love buying clothes and utensils. I therefore avoid going to the mall as I will be tempted to buy them.

@aninditasen I just saw the most beautiful set of rose gold silverware on Amazon. Ive never had an urge to have pretty silverware before seeing them. I added them to my wish list but probably will never buy them. I’m cheap and already have lots of silverware even if it isn’t as pretty as that.

I like buying cute tops. However, I am pretty good at resisting them though. I just buy when I am in the mood. Spices are another thing, I don't need them, but if I find something unique, I will buy it.

@snowy22315 spices is a unique one. I only buy ones I use or a new recipe calls for. I have a lot! I assume you must love to cook?

@shaggin I guess that is a fair statement. If I found Zaatar or Saffron cheap somewhere, I would add them to the collection

I no longer shop at stores I order everything I need online so the temptation is a lot less, When I did go to stores I could wander for hours and wind up with all kind of things,

@RasmaSandra oh that’s a good idea if that helps you. My husband shops online all the time and buys more and more stuff all the time. For him online shopping is not a smart idea. It’s to easy for him to save money.

nice pitcher. Yeah my uncle couldn't help buying dishes, tablecloths, and Christmas decorations. Right now I can't help buying tea and diamond paintings.

Stocks. I can't resist buying stocks. Because they make me money when I buy them. And when I make money from money I already made, I can work less. And if my money makes money I can spend whatever I want and never spend what I had to work for.
Yep. For me. That's it. I can't resist buying things that have a real value and make my life better and more free.
