Superbowl tickets, what a bargain!

NOT. I read this article about the cost of Superbowl tickets this year vs. last year, and so forth. Does anyone else besides me think this is just ridiculous? I thought about it for quite a while. Let's say, you have 4-5-6K dollars to just blow if you want to. IF you want to. Even if you did, is it worth it to spend it on a live football game? Keep in mind this is not for anything except the actual entrance to the game. You still have to get to the appropriate selected city, book a hotel ASAP, and eat while you are there. Maybe rent a car, too. I have read that hotels are in the thousands for Superbowl weekend. For that amount, let's say go cheap with air tickets, food, car, hotel, add the ticket price, you could well be up to 8K or more. For that price, a person could travel far, or have one heck of a great vacation, or buy a used car, or even buy groceries for several years! I would think you would want to go really, really bad before you spend that much to watch a football game that you can actually see in the comfort of your own home, and drink your own beer, and have some good food. You could even wear your pajamas if you want to. I know some people dream of going. I've never been a big fan of football; I do enjoy some baseball games and basketball. I just cannot in my wildest imagination think how attending one single game can cost that much, for a few hours, and all of that hassle and money. But that's just me. ''''This year's “get in” price of $4,259 would still have to drop considerably to slide under the cheapest seats in last year’s game, which leveled off and settled at $3,914.''''---quoted price for the cheapest seats as of Saturday afternoon, 2.11.23 Picture from Pixabay.
Ticket prices have gradually declined in every 24-hour window since Sunday night and might end up being the cheapest on average since Super Bowl LIII.

I had no idea that the price was so high. I have never been interested in watching sports.

@MarieCoyle Exactly! I never understood why people spent a lot of money to come to Monte Carlo for the Formula 1 Race. You watch it so much better from your TV.

I just cannot imagine spending that kind of money to watch one football game in person, when you can stay home and watch it and be comfortable.

@LadyDuck Yes, I agree. A lot of the big events are just better watched from home.

I agree. Ridiculous. I live about 2 hours from Kansas City. Our entire area is referred to as "Chiefs Kingdom". The fans around here are going nuts! I have no problem with football itself, but the greed of the NFL bothers me. The players are talented, no doubt, but no one needs to be paid like and worshiped as gods.

@MarieCoyle Well said! Great example of the irony of it all.

@BloggerDi The fact that someone can play football being more important and more profitable than being a first responder is, to me, completely ridiculous. Our priorities are screwed up.

Oh, I am so glad someone mentioned just how much these people get for playing football. It's simply ridiculous. We pay first responders almost nothing. If the football players get hurt on the field, the EMT/Paramedics that rush to take care of him are making almost nothing at all to just save his life. Somehow it seems wrong to me.

I can understand the excitement of being there, but there's no way I would or could pay for "just a game". But to these people it's not "just a game".

Yes, for some people it isn't just a game. Like I said, for that amount a person could have a vacation!

@MarieCoyle Right - a vacation that could span out some days . . . not just a few short hours!

There are a lot of people who will do it just for the experience. My husband's grandma flew home from Sky Harbor yesterday and we saw quite a few people who were just here for the game come off a couple of flights while we were waiting to get her through security. I know people who'd do it, some who'd do it without thinking twice about dropping that much money... not something I'd do, though. Then again, I really don't get the appeal of football.

I honestly don't get watching football. I've sat through so many high school games in freezing ice and snow, watching my boys play, or my girls who were cheerleaders. Even if I did like football, who in the world wants to sit and watch a game in nasty, cold sleet? Not me.

I wouldn't even if I enjoyed watching the games. It is just too much money.

I have to agree. All that money to watch a game, I think I would rather go on a big trip somewhere instead.

I had no idea. Is that the original price, or is that what people are re-selling them for? I could sleep in my rented car to save that thousand

Other than for years i have known it was a lot of money for a ticket, I had never researched it as of course I just don't care for football. It seems the prices do fluctuate a bit due to demand, the closer the date gets to the game. All well and good, I suppose, but even if a person managed to save big bucks on a ticket, you still have to get there, more than likely for a premium price due to having no notice and flying at the last minute, plus, like you say, you are going to sleep somewhere in a car. Just wild.

I know people from all walks of life, ones who have money, and ones who don't. I do not personally know of anyone who would pay this to see a football game, no matter who is playing in it. You're right, they have to love it. Or maybe they are just crazy? Who knows!

@popciclecold I am probably being a bit critical about it, because football is not something I enjoy. But still, that is a lot of money to see one football game!

The only way they'd get me to attend a Superbowl Game is if they paid all my expenses, including food, lodging, travel, and a healthy spending stipend, on top of entrance to the game, a luxury box with an open bar, and free food. Even then, I'd probably spend the entire game on my laptop or tablet doing anything but watching the game.

I might actually go if I got ALL of that, but then after I showed up, I think I would leave. I just don't like football.

I've always thought the ticket prices were ridiculous, and I would never pay that much to go to one game, even if my favorite team was playing. I don't even know anyone who has ever even gone to the big game. I think part of the reason the ticket prices are so high is because of demand. But not demand from you and I, the little guys. Corporations buy up most of the tickets and then use them as incentives or to give away to their employees. And then you got the big re-sell companies that buy up tickets and then try to re-sell them to the general public at huge mark-up prices. Whatever the reason, I would never pay that kind of money to go to the Super Bowl. Now, if someone wanted to give me free tickets, I might re-consider!

@MarieCoyle Yes, crazy insane prices. I’m trying to decide what’s cheaper right now, Super Bowl tickets or eggs.

I'll sit in my recliner and comfortably watch for the cost of our cable bill. I would never pay that much to see a Superbowl game.

I think now you have to know someone who knows someone to get a free ticket.
