Everyone at Chuy’s is ooh-ing and aah-ing at the photos I brought home. So am I, to tell you the truth. It was a wonderful vacation. But this is about theme music from television series, and you want another song! And another song you shall have. Welcome to a coin-toss loser.
The Rebel - Johnny Yuma - Johnny Cash
Growing up with the Johnny Cash albums in the house, I had no idea this was a television theme song. I just thought it was one of those historical ballad songs like Johnny Horton sang (and Cash: he did a song about the Alamo). The Rebel was history by the time I got out of diapers.
The series, co-created by series star Nick Adams, was about a Confederate veteran who “roamed through the west,” trying to reconcile what he’d experienced in the Civil War. It was popular, but only lasted two years before ABC canceled it due to violence. Adams would be dead seven years later from a prescription drug overdose, with the coroner unsure if it was accidental or deliberate. He was just 36.
That Cash fella, I think you know him. No matter what kind of music you listen to, you’ve heard of Johnny Cash. He was a genuine icon in music…not just country music, American music.
The Rebel - Johnny Yuma
Written by Richard Markowitz
Recorded by Johnny Cash
From The Rebel, 1959-61
He searched his soul (with some series footage):

I was never a Cash fan, but I recall that show, watched it every week. I worked with a guy in southern California who had been on a ship with Nick Adams in the Coast Guard and said he was a very nice guy. I just read a bit of his bio and it is quite interesting..

At least you didn’t say “and I got a headache because it’s Johnny Cash.”

@LindaOHio — Cash was considered rockabilly as well.

Aha, The Rebel returns. I'm surprised it was cancelled due to violence as other shows in the late 50's like Gunsmoke survived. Many Western shows in the 50's-60's were part of the regular TV lineups back then. Anyway, that was a great theme!

@FourWalls This is an old one for sure. But a classic, as all of his are.

Yeah, ok... he was kinda cute.
How about Angela, the theme from Taxi. I hear it all the time on Jazz.FM.

It’s that Johnny Cash sound that makes it that way.
