Let’s talk about accommodations while on the road. This is something I think will interest Jim (@porwest ), and he may back me up on some of this. My just-completed vacation was 12 days long. I spent 11 of those 12 nights in the same hotel chain group, where I’m a member of their loyalty program. Of those 11 nights, five of them were free. That’s one of the joys of a loyalty program. If you get one of their credit cards you’ll, in most cases, get a large chunk of bonus points if you join and spend so much in a set period of time. So the stays get you points and buying your gas on the credit card gets you points, etc. In short, I left home with over 100,000 points. After five free stays I still have over 10,000 points…plus nearly 10,000 points to be added from credit card usage. (And the credit card company hates me because I take all of these perks and pay the card off every month. ) Yeah, baby! The photos are from the vacation. The top one was taken out of my window at the Holiday Inn in Gainesville, Florida, the day I met Jeff for lunch. I sent that to my brother and he responded with something about putting my teeth somewhere in him. The bottom shot is part of the grounds at the Staybridge Suites in Tallahassee. Isn’t that gorgeous!!! I love the Staybridge Suites because they have free laundry. And, taking a lesson/piece of advice from Jim, I did my laundry before I came home, so I was home with clean clothes! I think Jim is a member of Wyndham Rewards, so he can vouch for the way the loyalty programs help the frequent traveler. They definitely help travelers!!! In one photo I see a lonely pool with no hot babes and a large slab of concrete with windows behind it.

That’s my problem. I went there in February instead of hot babes, I mean, Spring Break time. You’ll just have to go and ogle them yourself. (Straight women are no help in situations like this….)

@FourWalls I'd rather see them on a beach. Nature and all that. But I'm sure I'd risk being vomited on my a drunken frat boy.

I like the loyalty programs. The thing I do with my points is cash them in for Visa pre-paid cards. For 29,000 points I get $100. I pay with my Discover card and it pays me 1% cash back. They hate me too because I just take the cash back but pay the card off each month and use if for everything. I would probably use some of the points for hotel stays, but my company reimburses me for my stays and so to me the 1% and the $100 is just an added bonus. Because I travel so much for work I generally can cash out $200 a year plus about $80 in cash back rewards... So I am a happy camper. Speaking of campers, I can't wait for spring to get ours back on the road. lol

I can’t imagine the bonuses my old boss got from Marriott for all of his travels. Business and pleasure mixed together, how smart!

@FourWalls Gotta get whatever we can. I even use Upside which reimburses me for using certain gas stations. So, when I fill up the company truck I get reimbursed for the full amount, plus earn 1%-5% on my Discover card, plus get whatever Upside is offering. Finding any way to make a buck or save a buck is always a good thing in my book.

I liked to use those hotel chains for the same reason, a lot of interesting advantages. It was always sad to quit Florida.

I'm all about points and rewards. We charge as much as we can for points on our credit card and then pay it off each month of course. Nice pix.

I got $200 on a bonus card for charging a certain amount in three months…and paid it off. Loved it. The credit card company? Not so much. Right now I prefer the points to cash back because I’m still traveling.

A great loyalty program. Five free nights is absolutely amazing. Love both photos, the bottom especially.

I like their loyalty program a lot. That was a great property, and I wish I’d been out there at sunset.

@FourWalls I can see why. I would too. Sunset would have been gorgeous. Maybe next time.

Free is the best. One of the reasons I frequent Chuy’s is they have a frequent lunch card: every 7th meal is free!

Oh yes rewards are great. I used to use Wyndhams but now I have a Marriott. Course I go nowhere, only one night a year perhaps to get away.

I don’t like any of Wyndham’s hotels. I have a Marriott account, too. My go-to is Holiday Inn, with Hampton as a backup.

You have this accommodation lurk down to a fine art, haven't you? That's great that you're saving so much.

You bet they do. Especially on these longer trips. I had four free nights when I went out west in 2021.

Got to love those credit card sort of freebies Of course, one has to spend quite a bit of money to receive the perks you did, congrats, and the credit card company thanks you to

I put everything on the card (grocery shopping, gas, cell phone bill) and pay it off every month. I get points and they get no interest from me.
