Everything online is filled with hearts today, friends. It is Valentine´s Day.
For us Valentine´s Day is an imported holiday just like Halloween.
The first time I knew about it was when I went to the US when I was 11 and my classmates gave me beautiful Valentine´s cards. Luckily my parents had heard of it and bouth for me to give away a book full of Valentine´s cards that I tore away and gave to my schoolmates in return.
Time went by and Valentine´s Day came to my country although not as enthusiastic as in the US. Some people gave heart shaped chocolates to their loved ones but that was all.
Many years later I received a sort of Valentine´s Day present I was in the US for a holiday and was aware that I had to go to a mall to get some garments I needed. Little did I know that it was the day after Saint Valentine´s Day.
I needed a summer nightie and went to check if I could buy one. At a big store there were the most beautiful Valentine´s nighties, all cotton as I like them with red heart prints over white. I don´t know what the price had been the day before but that day they were on sale a US $1 each. I bought 2 and I should have bought more. They lasted me for over a decade.
Now I live alone but I still have in my heart the memories of my Valentine. I am lucky.

@marguicha very neat! Was it exciting being in a new country or scary leaving your friends and family behind?

@shaggin Both, I suppose. Specially since we did not know the language.

I wear short nighties most of the time except now in winter when I wear very warm PJs. I lived a year and a helf in the US in the State of Wisconsin. My father got a fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

Valentine's Day celebration came to Italy when I was already a teenager. The first Valentine's gift I received was in 1969 from my ex-boyfriend. He sent me a beautiful bouquet of red roses through the "Interflora" organization. He did not live in my city and he was in the Italian Navy.

@LadyDuck It is almost a miracle to find the right man. I had such luck but my daughters weren´t as lucky.

It can be a fun day. But it is too commercial here like all of them

The heart print nighties I bought were just commercial items. But as I don´t care as to when I were hearts and when I don´t, they suited me fine.

@marguicha I would have bought them at that price. I don't go by the holidays with my clothes. Have my zombie t-shirt on now

@marguicha You should have indeed. You'd have enough for a lifetime then.

Yes, you're right. We follow other cultures in celebrating Valentine's Day.
