Into everyone’s life some country music must fall. Sorry, Linda.
We continue on with a look at my favorite television series theme songs. Please note, these are NOT necessarily my favorite TV series. Some shows I love had pretty lame themes. Then there was this…..
Theme From the Dukes of Hazzard (Good Ol’ Boys) - Waylon Jennings
Dear Northerners, Midwesterners, Canadians, Europeans, and anyone else who’s never been to the south but has seen this show: WE ARE NOT LIKE THIS!!!
We were beating down that stereotype of southerners pretty well, then this show came along and set us back a good 50 years. Short answer: I wouldn’t watch this show for the key to Fort Knox.
But the theme song is great! Performed by the legendary Waylon Jennings, who also provided the narration for the show, the song was a #1 country hit in 1980.
The show was on for seven seasons, and I’m pretty sure that most of the viewers were male, and the only reason they tuned in was to see Catherine Bach in those hot pants that later came to be known as “Daisy Dukes.”
No, we’re not like this.

They keep showin’ my hands and not my face on TV:

Waylon rocked big time….and that has nothing to do with his stint with Buddy Holly.

@FourWalls By the way, I watched out of entertainment with my brother. Would do it again if I could. Things were so different back in those simple days. No apologies from me. I guess I was a LCD viewer.
Did you watch All in the Family?

Sorrell Brooke was a good actor. I remember him in the first episode of M*A*S*H, where he told Henry to give Frank a high colonic and send him on a ten-mile hike. ![](/Content/images/emotes/rofl.gif)

I never watched this show, though I was aware of it. I can't even remember if my erstwhile hubby watched it while I was slaving away in my office setting type... I missed a lot of shows that way.

No, I was always reading a book when shows started and then dad made me choose to put the book down or go to my room to read because he couldn't watch a show and read a book at the same time so said I couldn't either... (He and mom got into a lot of fights over it. Mom usually read and watched television at the same time, too.

I know the Dukes and music well but was never a big fan at all. It sort of reminded me of Smokey and the Bandit gone wild,

Smokey had more of a plot, jeans not as tight, and Jackie Gleason to make it funny. ![](/Content/images/emotes/rofl.gif)

They had a term about shows like this, saying they were “LCD.” That meant they appealed to the “lowest common denominator.” What does that tell you about the stereotyping?
I love Waylon too, but not enough to sit through this show. Kinda like Edward Mulhare: I had a massive crush on him when I was a kid (he was in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir), but when he popped up on Knight Rider it took about. 20 minutes to realize I didn’t have that big a crush on him.
(Even though he was still quite handsome!)

Ah. I forgot. Movies do a number on Southern folks too. Seems like they portray Northerners as mildly challenged hicks...
I just learned to play that song

Easy song to play. As Harlan Howard said, country music is three chords and the truth. ![](/Content/images/emotes/lol.gif)

@FourWalls Ha ha, yes. For a bass player you can easily "fake" your way through most country songs by following it's chord progression and playing the 1 and the 5 of the scale
