A fun birthday game

Hey all! Forgive my delay, I will try to be here more. I thought I would share with you about the game I played at my birthday supper - It wasn't my original idea. A friend of mine played it at her birthday and , well, I always wanted to try it.
For this game you need to have a larger gathering of people.
Once you know the number of people, buy small gifts, the same number as guests that you;ll have. Don't pick things for certain people , since it's entirely random who will end up with what.
Picking the gifts is the most fun. You can go with practical, funny, weird... imaginative. These can be anything from dollar store goods to whatever you want.
My friend who played this game - for example, she had funny socks, funny sunglasses, candy bars, decor, tp (!)
I came up with putting the gifts into a gallon bag. I did a taco night bag with taco holders, taco seasoning and taco shells, a big full of candy, sanitizer and wipes, post it notes and markers, a small drum, a movie night bucket with popcorn, popcorn seasoning and several candy, coasters for drinks, and a fake rubber hand, to name a few.
Then you will take the number of guests you have, and print little cards with differing instructions on them. "keep your gift or trade with a person of your choosing", "Pass gifts 2 seats to the left", and also you can turn your game into an ice breaker with instructions like "trade gifts with someone who has a pet", "Trade gifts with the person who came from the farthest away", and so on...
Have you ever played a version of this game?

A lot of fun, especially if you put a weird gift in there like the rubber hand lol

@FayeHazel And you don't ask what the weird dude wants the rubber hand for after he spent an hour trading to get it.

It's super fun, there's another one that's similar, but you play with dice and rolling doubles - but I like this variation for it's ice breaker properties

@FayeHazel Thanks. I will definitely try that game next chance I get.
One question. Do you wrap each gift???

@DianneN No, I didn't wrap them. Though, since I had all different size of items I put them all into gallon ziptop bags, and told people ahead of time not to look in the (large) bag of gifts and not get too attached to what they had right away as that probably wouldn't be the thing they left with :-)

I have played something similar at my first husbands annual Christmas party. They all love games there so much. It’s definitely entertaining! The game you played and the gifts sound fun. I’m glad you had such friends to play things like this with and to gather with.

It's super fun. I think so :-) I tried to be either useful or practical when it came to choosing the gifts.

I have and it is really a great game. I like yours but the one I played, we picked numbers and when your number was called you chose a gift from a pile. Then you drew new numbers. No. 1 could swap his gift with anyone in the room, then No 2 did the same, etc, etc.

Oh that sounds like a fun variation, too. I love these sorts of gifts. There's another one here played with dice but similar to the one you describe

Oh yes, super fun. Fun to see who wants what gift. Yes, so much more entertaining on this sort of game to have more people.
