Timers and Other Stuff

We all use timers I am sure. You can see the one in my photo that our younger son took a few days ago plugged into the socket behind the lamp. We had the curtain panels installed when we went home a few weeks ago.
We are old fashioned, so use timers in several rooms when we are not home to turn lights off and on. However, I have a dusk to dawn lightbulb over my garage, a home security system which includes motion detectors, and a Ring doorbell. Our son checks our house a few times a week. One neighbor keeps an eye on it, too. I still worry.
And speaking of timers, I have a busy schedule today. Hair appointment, pick friends up from airport, dinner out. But, I do have time to myLot until my timer goes off

I only use timers on the oven when I am cooking something. Crime isn't a big issue here, and even if it was, I don't think they would pick my house to break into. There are a lot more lucrative possibilities around here. Half the year, this place isn't even visible from the road..of course, if someone wanted total privacy to commit a crime, I guess this would be it.

We have never had any crimes committed at our house - knock on wood - but the house across the street had a break-in years ago. The police caught the robbers with the loot on the way out of our street. Some riff raff like to take rides into our town to view the houses, but the local police keep their eyes opened for them. One stopped my father's worker who was on the way to our house with attic insulation when we first moved in.

@DianneN The police never come out here unless you call them. It is too far from the town where the station is and they hang out.

@DianneN We are home most times so don't really need them for other things. Do have the ring doorbells

I know where it is. Sorry for having to search for it.
Thanks so much. That room is complete for now. We had do many difficulties with it, that I may write a post about it.
Our son is priceless to us in so many ways. Thanks and enjoy your day, too.

@just4him It's still early where you are. I'm happy you finished your steps and had a nap. I'm waiting for my martini to get made and preparing some light appetizers. That's it!
Oh, I heard someone in the kitchen getting ice! Now the fun begins.

@DianneN Since I don't deal with timers, I didn't know what to look for until I spotted it. No problem. I'm a quick learner.
My day is all downhill now. I have my steps and my nap. Now, I'm relaxing while the phone recharges. I thought about going shopping, we'll see when the phone is charged.

We don't have lighting timers, I wish we did. When we go on vacation, we hire someone to keep an eye on the house and feed the animals. We went on a three-day beach trip last month, thankfully there were no break-ins but someone forgot to close the freezer.

We use timers for the lights around the house if we are going to be out for more than a day - but in most cases we get back home so don't have to use them. We do want to keep lights on at night if we are not going to be here . . . and I don't want our parakeet to be in the darkness too early. Have a good, busy day!!

Timers go a long way towards your life ! I wonder why you have to turn lights on when you are not at home.

I use timers when I engage in a physical activity like cardio exercise. I keep a record of the time to increase cardio every time.

I've never used lighting timers before, but we do have a programmable thermostat, now, so I'm feeling pretty fancy. Your home is beautiful!

@AliCanary We mostly had outdoor work done which took almost one year from start to finish and more to come once we return to Connecticut from Florida.
The wainscoting is pine, but after living with it for way too long, we finally had it and its hideous wall unit painted white. It's a long narrow room with only that one window. It's much brighter now. The rest of the room is behind that white couch.
A million thanks!!!

@DianneN sounds like that story is about restoration, which is never simple or easy! It came out wonderfully, though. That wainscoting is so interesting. I've never seen it in horizontal panels like that.

My airfreight has a timer and my washing machine and nothing else. I used to have table or wall clocks in every room to time up my work.

@DianneN I don't have clocks in every room now. I have to come to the sitting room or my bed room to see the time.

Nothing wrong with the old fashioned timers. I can understand your worry. Desperate people try desperate things. But I think you're fairly safe. . I like your walls.

@DianneN Same here, if it works, it works.
Oh yes, it's a lovely shade of pink, very cheery. I'd love to know the story :-)

@FayeHazel Simply put, the walls were painted green to match the area rug we had to have custom-made. A different dye lot caused the color to be way off. Hence, another paint job to bring out the pink in the fabric of some chairs.
But I like it better

Thank goodness for timers. I have so many alarms set on my phone it's a wonder I have any more room. I wonder how many it will hold.

Timers are good to have around and they can help with security & lighting. We have Alexa and I use it (her? them?) a lot for a kitchen timer.

It never hurts to be safe. We have a security system and are looking into getting a video doorbell. Hope you have a good, albeit busy, day. Have a good date night too!!!

Many thanks. The video doorbell comes in so handy. We are able to see deliveries, if there is snow and how much, so we know if we are charged for snow plowing and sidewalk shoveling, and the best, is when our son comes to feed the birds

@DianneN It's never with ease but the end result is worth the trouble.. We got a few renovation work done in the house last year and around three months were terrible.
