I always thinking about death because we never know when it will come. So I saw my husband's wallet few days ago and I saw he had two credit cards. I don't want to deal with debt in credit card if he dies. So I asked him to close it because we don't really need it anyway.

I used to have 4 credit card from famous banks (local and international), after covid hits and i choose to move to my hometown, not working in Jakarta anymore, i dragged myself into a lot of debt because i'm not ready leaving my jakarta's lifestyle (FYI i always pay all of my credit card expenses on time, full payment when i was in Jakarta).
Long story short it took 2 years to pay all of the debt and now i closed all of my credit card and now i am debt free. Something we need to know about credit card is, its not extra money, its debt, so when we use it, make sure we have money to pay it full payment. I got a lot of cashback and another privillege while having them. But now, after move to my hometown, we learned the hard way that we have to leave Jakarta's lifestyle and i'm good now and i'm still enjoying life to the fullest *sorry i'm talkinh too much

I don't have any credit cards but if I did, in the US, insurance will pay any debt if I die and there is still balance owing on a credit card.

@ifa225 It's the insurance that the credit card issuers have that we pay a percentage on that covers that so the credit card companies don't lose their money. I'm sure your credit card companies do that, too.

Interesting question.
I use credit - it can be a very useful tool - as long as it is wielded to your advantage - but it can get out of control REALLY fast - so hold tight to those reins!
What I don't like is the CC company periodically increases your credit limit - I hate that. They keep pushing a higher credit. I like to keep it low - and just have enough for an emergency situation - and pay it off each month.
I was told, that any debt belongs to the cardholder only - so, technically, a spouse who is not personally named on the card isn't legally liable, however, two things - I would feel morally responsible and I'm sure CC companies have the clout to go after anyone they think could pay them back.

When we apply for a credit card, the bank ask our family's information(like spouse, parents and children) , our address and our office. So if we can pay off the debt, they will ask the family member to do it or take our land/house.
Cc company have so many tricks to trap their customers

Credit cards are a very bad idea unless it is a card that offers rewards and you pay the balance in full each month. As for who pays for the debt when you die? Your spouse does. Beyond that, your estate does if there is not a surviving spouse.

I don't have a credit card, and have no interest in having one. Living without debt is my dream.
