The photo has nothing to do with the post but shows a yummy dessert that has no place during Lent.
Tuesday, 21 February, is Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday and we’ll be having pancakes for sure. The following day is Ash Wednesday and the first day of Lent, the period before Easter, and of particular significance to practising Christians. The word ‘shrove’ comes from ‘shrive’ meaning ‘absolve’. The day may be called ‘Mardi Gras’ (Fat Tuesday) in some countries.
Pancakes were a way to use up eggs, milk and sugar before the Lenten fasting season begins when Christians were/are expected to eat simpler foods and less of them.
Tuesday is movie night here in our lifestyle village. The movie ends about 8.30pm and we’re inviting a few friends back to have a pancake supper. We can make the pancakes before we go.
Will anyone be having pancakes on Tuesday?

Will you have anything with the pancakes ? When I make them we have bacon or sausage with them and my husband likes eggs with his.

Ahhh, so you have those thin ones that you can roll with fruit or something in them?
I remember when I used to order Chicken A La King in the cafeteria where I worked back then, 1977, it was a pancake filled with chicken in a cream sauce and was oh so delicious.

@JudyEv Now I have no eggs so cant make them..I mean I guess I could follow an eggless recipe but it doesn't sound very appetizing.

I’ve never heard of the Pancake Tuesday before. The kids would be at school but I’ll try to remember to make the baby one

Fat Tuesday! An excuse by Christians and non-Christians alike to drink and eat to excess!
Mardi Gras is a big deal in the city of New Orleans. It gets absolutely crazy there. I've been a few times during Mardi Gras, and it is quite the party atmosphere. Obviously, Fat Tuesday is the big day to celebrate, but Mardi Gras activities will often take place for days leading up to the start of Lent.

@JudyEv No, I will not use it as an excuse for another food fest. I leave on Wednesday for my annual backpacking trip with my son.

@moffittjc Enjoy your trip and don't go near any bears, alligators, pythons or cougars. I think that just about covers it!

@JudyEv I can observe and I am aware that very few Westerners still practice. There are already a number of people in my region who have converted to other religions and stopped practicing it. Because of this, things have already become more relaxed around here. There will be no radio or television broadcasting from Maundy Thursday through Saturday, however, as of right now, it simply stops for a short period of time after 3 p.m. on Good Friday. Nonetheless, the majority of people in my nation are still Catholic.

I'm afraid that, apart from having pancakes, we are not observing Lent. I was really just trying to explain a bit more about it. Vince was a practicing Catholic but has become very disillusioned over the last decade. While I fully supported him, I never converted.

@rsa101 Other Christian religions are also losing members. Once, all the shops closed for four days over Easter. Now most only close on Good Friday but even then a few small ones will stay open. And Christmas Day, quite a few shops still open.
