It's a Brand or a Schtick, You Know

It's what I do here and how I do it that makes me me. It's what makes Porwest a Porwest and not someone else. I have talked about this before. But sometimes I feel the need to repeat it. We all have our thing here that we are known for. For some it's cooking recipes. For others it's health updates. For yet others it's sharing travel news or posting about interesting lottery winners. Everyone has a brand or a schtick—even if for some, theirs is not so obvious. Even our style of writing can be a brand or a schtick of sorts. It's what makes us unique and interesting—or at least recognizable. When you open a box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, you know what you are going to get. You know what to expect. My brand or schtick is honest, heart felt opinion delivered with no pulled punches, direct and absolute and without compromise, and sometimes offered harshly in a quite adamant demeanor with no parsed words. That's just me and is not meant to be taken wrongly nor should any of it be taken personally. Some people like my brand, and others prefer a different one. But I won't change my brand or schtick because it works for me, and enough people like it that it is worth continuing to "produce" the same product that works. I am among some famous friends as well in my delivery. Judge Judy will call anyone a moron she feels is not the sharpest tack in the box. Morton Downey, Jr. made a name for himself yelling at his guests and sometimes sitting on them to shut them up. Don Rickles made an entire career out of making fun of people and insulting them. And of course, there are more than a few people in news media circles and writing for newspapers, or doing opinion shows that just lay it all out there, front and center. Hell, Dear Abby was only entertaining because many times she did not side with the person asking the question and was very honest and forthright in sharing her thoughts. Nobody would care or watch or read if these antics were not deployed in their deliveries. It's their brand. It's their schtick. And what I do here is mine. It's all for fun and entertainment. It's to add a little bit of spike to the punch and make it better. And again, it is not personal. From the way I post to the way I comment or respond, it's simply me being me. Being Porwest. Never take it as anything else. Photo from 2018.

I like to read your posts even if I don´t read or answer everything that is posted here and even if I don´t agree with many things that you say. That is, I like your Schtick even if it is the first time I use that word.

Sometimes it's important to remind people not to take it all personally. It's just me. It's what I do. I make no apologies for it. I won't change what I do. It has worked for me, and therefore, if it ain't broke, I ain't fixing it. lol

@porwest One time I was having a row with my brother, he said "I should change". It was around 10 years ago so we were already quite old. I said that people DO NOT change essentially. And you either have to accept them as they are or move away. I like you although I don´t share some of your political ideas.

@marguicha You are right about that. People tend to stay pretty much the same, and that becomes more true the older people get. As for my political views, you will come around one of these days. After all, I make a lot of sense and eventually once logic kicks in you'll better understand my points. lol

In the infamous words of a friend of mine, “I’m not for everyone, and I’m okay with that.” You keep being you. It’s what keeps us coming back time and time again on this site

@porwest I would rather people be their true, honest selves here than to hide behind their computers and be some fake person they wished they were.

@moffittjc Very true. And many people do that. I prefer people to be genuine, even if I disagree with them sometimes. And especially when I do.

I love that t-shirt that says “Be yourself. The world will adjust.” And if they don’t adjust, too bad for them.

I have learned not to take anything personal. You are just being yourself. Others should do the same. Humor goes a long way.

Everything in life is about context. If I can inform people of the context of what I do here and offer the why, perhaps it allows people to digest what I do here a little better. Or they can just block me. lol
