I wonder why he would say that

So, this is the discussion I thought about writing:
When I went to Urgent Care the other day the on call doctor was one that had seen Bob in ER to send him on to VA hospital. I will say he is a very nice doctor.
We chatted about my condition and about how Bob was doing. He told me I was a very nice person and that Bob was a very nice man. He would go look up and make sure he was ordering the best meds for me.
I would not argue that or say we are not nice, but I do question why he would need to say that.
1. Are people in this small rural county often mean to their health care providers? Do they yell at him and complain and try to make them miserable and unappreciated?
2. Is he double checking things for me because I am nice? If I were mean and nasty would he do something differently.
I guess I feel a bit self conscious being told I am a nice person. Maybe some of my nice coworkers are rubbing off on me.
I have joked in the past that when I went to work at Head Start, twenty-five years ago they had to beat the authoritarian strictness out of me. I wonder if that is what has made me so nice? ( I am teasing here. Head Start teachers would never beat anyone. I often found them to be 'too nice'.)
Maybe it is all of these years interacting on myLot that has made me the nice person that I am.

I am certainly not one to be mean to someone who has my life and well being in their hands. I hope your grandson in law does not meet too many mean ones.

Because his job is often thankless, and he's seeing people at their worst. And, it's going to show. When I found out I had to pee in a cup (after doing so at the doctor's office three months prior), I let out every colorful word I know. I am usually more filtered and reserved in public, but I had to fast, so my mind wasn't exactly in the right place. I can see why he might say that. Because it's rare to see anyone be.... respectful in his line of work.

I had to fast for labs this morning before I saw my primary. I have also seen some grouchy providers, but this man, when he had to transfer Bob to basically save his life was so kind, I appreciate him.

Yes it does and I have often felt that if more people could be like that the world would be a better place.

We have heard people not being nice to our doctor. Pretty and I always ask how she's doing when she's finishing up our appointments. Our doctor has cancer and is often MIA because she has to go in for some type of treatment. We like her as a doctor and feel she's become a real friend in the five or six years we've been seeing her.

@GardenGerty Me, too. They actually care about us instead of just seeing us as dollars and cents.

I was wondering that, but grouchiness in general does not fit the personality of my community. I wonder if people just get grouchy when they are ill.

@GardenGerty I was old enough to be brought up to be in awe of all those in authority including doctors. I can't imagine ever being annoyed or grouchy with a doctor but I haven't been put in a difficult position either which would have a lot of bearing on how people behave.

I would be curious too. Do think he was trying to keep you calm? Being in Urgent Care he might feel that is important and say things he might not otherwise. Just a thought.

I feel there are certain kinds of people when it come's to doctors. There are the one's who ask question, listen to the doctor's advice and work with them to get better. Then, there are the one's who go, make the doctor's figure out what is wrong with them, with little to know help to them finally, they complain about the cure as if the doctor is a quack! As an example my nephew has so many health problems, he has been told to exercise to lose weight his whole life & watch what he eats. Yet, he is in his 40's now, never had a job, lives off everyone else and does nothing but eat junk food all day playing video games. He is close to 700 pounds last I saw him. You think he would listen? Nope, doc's are quacks and I am just waiting for him to explode on day. Crazy huh? What would you say to him if you were the Doctor or being that your a nice person? Maybe, that is why the doc say's your nice. You work with him and don't call him a quack!

I think it is basically because he is happily surprised that you are both so nice and appreciates it because other patients might be demanding and not appreciative to he thing the doctor does for them,

I really think it should not be that way. Your doctor is trying to help, but is also only human.
