Home made "creamer"

Hubby likes French vanilla creamer. The liquid kind, often non-dairy. (chemicals and oil) He is not really supposed to drink coffee, but he likes one or two cups a day with that stuff in it. I looked up recipes on line and made him a homemade version. I had all I needed on hand. Recipe called for equal parts whole milk, and sweetened condensed milk.(sometimes called Eagle Brand). And then vanilla extract. For one can milk, one can sweetened condensed milk I added 3 Tbs. vanilla. Some recipes call for less. To him it is okay but not quite as good as the store bought. To me, well at least he is getting some calcium, vitamins and minerals. I am wondering about adding a pinch of salt. Not enough to notice, just enough to accent the sweetness. I was not about to go out to the store just for creamer, I had all this other stuff on hand.

Creamer is very bad, home made is a lot better and you only use safe ingredients not hydrogenated fats in it.

@GardenGerty Most of the time I drink my coffee black, sometimes I add a little bit of real cream.

I am with you on that. I cannot seem to get out of the store without spending $50.

Another option would be to melt some vanilla ice cream...

I thought of that. He probably would have resisted. You did remind me I have about two more servings and I would enjoy a snack.

@BarBaraPrz I am getting good at this. Just made another batch. He cannot figure out why we keep having to make more coffee. . . I reminded him he is drinking as much as I am.

It's always annoying when there's just one thing we need from the grocery store. Especially since Pretty won't let me go by myself. She finds all kinds of other "stuff" to buy as well. *sigh*

I had not been buying it, but when we cleaned my sister's fridge we had brought home a large container of that "non dairy" liquid. I do not drink it though I confess it s good on oatmeal. I do not like to make extra trips to the store as they translate to at least $50.

@DaddyEvil I still like my real dairy. I do not know if I have tried almond milk.

@GardenGerty We buy almond milk because I can't use real milk anymore. But we don't drink coffee, either. I'm lucky if I get out of the store after only paying $50. When I was still working at Walmart, Pretty refused to tell me if we needed anything so I'd have to take her to Walmart here in town after I got home.

My Hubby and I have been making our own stuff most nights. We have been cooking from home a lot more. It is just to expansive to eat out. My daughter will go get a coffee for $7 to $9 a cup. I think, that is crazy! I can pay for a whole pack for that much. I just think the price's of things are getting to high. But, that is so nice of you to do that for him.

I know. Now I did go for coffee and breakfast with a friend at Wendy's on Saturday, but that is about once a month.

I hope so. There are a variety of things you can make yourself and then know for sure what is in them.

That's a riot! I was looking at those recipes a couple of days ago. I found some on Pinterest, but didn't save them. Hubs drinks his coffee with a touch of nonfat milk and I drink mine black. I'm sure your hubs will get used to it in no time.

He will be fine with it. It is one of his very few indulgences. I drink mine black.

When I was little, Mum would sometimes give me a glass of milk with a teaspoon of sugar and a few drops of vanilla. I always enjoyed that.
