Is That a Black Bear in Front of My House? Yep!

Talking on FaceTime with our younger son when our Ring doorbell alarm rang. Look at the monster eating our wild birds’ food! We yelled and clapped at it, but it didn’t run away. Our son drove to our house and was there in 2 minutes. I was so worried the bear would attack him. He shouted at it and it ambled off around the side of our house and disappeared. This stinker has been here before. Once again, the shepherd hooks are bent and three feeders are empty. *** Sorry to write and dash. Have a dinner party to attend in 30 minutes and will be back later or tomorrow. Just wanted to let you know about the hungry bear who has to resort to eating bird seed in the winter. ***

People charge admission in Gatlinburg to let people see bears. You’re missing your calling.

We have them in Zoos. You mean to say Dianne has her house in the Zoo? Blink...Anything can happen in America...after all, there are so many blonds and blondes out there.

I don't care for zoos, but you can visit my house in CT anytime you want and see them for free.

I wish the tourists there would not feed the bears. They know they aren't supposed to, but some do it anyway.

It also looks like a large one...and if one bear has come that close, it means there are others on prowl close by right?

That is a serious security risk. You need a protective fence. That bear looks like a man eater.

No. Black bears rarely attack humans. If you want to be attacked by a black bear, you have get between her and her cubs.

It's prohibitive to fence in our property. I'm ordering an air horn in case I'm home when they show up.

Awww, you chased Winnie the Pooh away. One of my friends has parents living in Pennsylvania. Their house was surrounded by woods and occasionally a bear would amble by, Her dad would keep a rifle around to shoot up into the air to frighten the bear away. I hope this one does not come back to cause you more troubles, Enjoy the dinner party,

@DianneN He will be back again...would you mind mixing some food with milk of magnesia and placing it such that the bear can eat it...I think it will make them run away...kinda fear having to poop. I feel pooping is one action that makes beings vulnerable. Beings cannot run and poop simultaneously...nor attack and poop simultaneously..there is a reason I have so much interest in pooping.

You're right! He returned overnight and polished off everything. We have no choice but to have our son remove everything and hope that those poor sweet birds find another food source to help them live through the rest of the winter. I am heartbroken

You have to deal with bears outside of your home while my relatives and myself have to deal with a stray dog stealing food from the cats outside of the home when dinner time comes.

Thank you. Our son was far enough away in the driveway and shouted while standing next to the open door of his car to make a quick get away if necessary. The bear returned overnight. Our son stopped by today to remove the shepherd hooks and all the bird feeders. The party was so much fun. We left after midnight.

@DianneN You need to worry about your safety first. You can always walk to the far end of your yard and scatter bird seed on the ground. The birds will find it and maybe, it will be too scattered to tempt the bear back again. I think I'd also call and alert the forest rangers that the bear is raiding your bird feeders. Bears shouldn't be up and about yet this early in the Winter. Good luck. Be careful going outside unless you know there aren't any bears around before you do.

@DaddyEvil I’m living in my condo in Florida. The bear is at our house in Connecticut. You have some good ideas, but many of our wild birds uses perches to feed, and I can’t ask my son to stop by every day to scatter seeds at the far end of my yard. He is so busy with his work. I will check everything out when we return at the end of April or just put the house up for sale

The bear returned overnight. He was smart enough to know how to unscrew the bottom of each bird feeder. My son just stopped at our our and removed all the shepherd hooks and all the bird feeders. I just hope those sweet birds find food elsewhere and survive the winter. I feel terrible for them.

Sometimes bears will come around here when they are really hungry. To be fair, we did build our homes and neighborhoods in their territory so it's only fair that they enjoy some bird seed every now and again.

I am glad it went away. I don't think I would be putting birdseed out for awhile, because that's why it comes back. I know in Montana, I had to give up suet feeders, the bears just loved them. Those pesky bears seem to be able to find food almost anywhere.

They are habitual hunters. We have to continue feeding the birds throughout the winter, so they won't perish. Next year, I will stop feeding them in August to give them time to find another food source. I love my birdies

@celticeagle Our younger son stopped by and removed all of the shepherd hooks and bird feeders and put them in the garage. No food for the bear. However, there is no food for the birds, who depend on our feeders all winter. I hope they find another food source and don't die. I am so heartbroken, and so is my son. I will put them up again in the spring, and stop feeding the birds in August to give the birds time to find other food sources. I'm so sick over this. You have no idea.

Don't understand why they call you all white...you all are peach...light or dark shade...but not white...maybe the different colored eyes you all have pass light in a way that makes your skin color look white...I am giving you all benefit of doubt.
