This palm is native to India and Sri Lanka but it tolerates other climates as well. We have these trees growing in our property and we did not plant them. As some of you know we retain what comes on its own. These have reached their full length almost 30 feet in height. And one tree has produced flowers. These flowers will take around 9 months to mature The sap of this tree is used to make jaggery and if fermented it produces toddy. The pulp of the tree is dried and it comes out as flour which is used to make a pudding and also a porridge that is good for digestive issues. The sad part is we have three such trees that have come on their own and I doubt we will make any use of it. One of our trees has produced a bunch of seeds and the bunch is almost 10 feet in length.

The palms we have here are not of that species. This one looks prettier than those we have here.

These are gigantic and we have three. Regrets are they cannot be used as one needs expertise to extract flour, and stuff. We have two bunches on one tree and when they turn red I will post a photo here It takes around 9 months

@LadyDuck The trees are gigantic in size and trying to go about using them will be frightfully expensive.

You eat jaggery though so wouldn’t the trees be handy for you? So the photo on the right side is the flowers that look like wigs hanging?

There is a complicated process involved in making jaggery and I do not have that expertise This is how that bunch will finally look

@allknowing oh I see I get what you don’t have interest in them then. Maybe you can sell it or give it away when it’s ripe? I am absolutely amazed looking at the photo on the link. So neat!

That's some interesting facts to know. The palm tree looks no less than an exotic plant.
