Are Certain Kisses Inappropriate?

I think so. I’m a hugger and kiss close friends and definitely my family. Those hugs and kisses are fine with me. I love getting them in return. I don’t mind getting huge hugs and getting lifted off my feet and twirled around by my hubby or sons. The reason I bring this up is due to my new hairdresser in Florida. After my first visit he gave me air kisses. After my second visit, he gave me air kisses, a bit closer. I didn’t know what to do, so I gave him an air kiss back. Then watched him carefully with his other client on my third visit. No air kisses for her, then again, I didn’t blame him However, he actually planted a big kiss on my cheek when I saw him Wednesday. He also told me he enjoys my company and feels close to me. He’s divorced, and he knows I’m married. My friend, who recommended him, told me he never throws air kisses at her, nor did he ever kiss her on the cheek. Of course it’s meaningless to me, but I don’t like it. Hubs just laughed it off, but he doesn’t like it either. He doesn’t want me to visit @TheHorse in Montana at his cabin, even though Horse promised to supply me with toilet paper in his outhouse. I’m thinking of ducking or having a huge coughing fit next appointment. Btw, I have no problem with hugs and kisses from my hairdresser up north. I’ve been seeing him for over 25 years and his husband doesn’t mind at all.

I loved your post but I would not feel comfortable with being such a favorite of my hairdresser (specially is he is a man and specially since it seems to be going in crescendo And although I´m not planing on going to the US, thanks for telling me that just in case I have to take my own toilet paper is I visit @TheHorse I remember that when I smoked, I often said that the 2 things would always need at home no matter what were ciggies and toitet paper. Now it is my pills and toilet paper.

If I knew him better, then it would okay, like kissing an old friend. But I barely know this guy, and don't like his extra white veneers I remember the days of smoking. Glad we quit, but oh, that tp. I always swore to myself that I'd never run out.

That seems a bit... odd to me. I hug family and friends but don't offer to kiss anyone and nobody offers to kiss me. I wonder if you can tell your new hairdresser that you're a bit of a germophobe so don't like the kisses? Surely that wouldn't offend him.

@DianneN I'm a mild germophobe... I don't want kisses from anyone. Yes, I agree... you should have pulled away and looked disgusted with him... He would have apologized and you wouldn't have that problem again.

You sound as if you need a kiss The truth of the matter is that I am a huge germaphobe. It may be too late to tell him that. I should have pulled away immediately when it happened.

@DianneN I think it depends on your relationship to the person and your level of comfort with them.

I have no relationship with him. I've only been to him 3 times. I really think it's inappropriate behavior, especially when it makes me uncomfortable. What's next? A kiss on the lips?

That guy just seems kind of sleazy with inappropriate approaches. If you want to have him as your hairdresser I suggest you back off from him or demonstrate in some way that you do not like this closeness. BTW who is that beautiful young woman in the photo with the handsome cat?

@DianneN I have always loved orange-furred cats but never had one myself. My friend's son found an orange kitty some time ago and brought him home. They kept him and named him Pumpkin.

@RasmaSandra I've never ever had one. However, she is a keeper. She was a feral 5 or 6 week old baby alone in Texas. She followed my DIL and grandson to the hotel and the rest is history.

I don't like it one bit. I'm so awkward when it comes to things like that, but will try it - if I can work up the courage. That's my new grand kitty, Ally, straight from the Alamo in Texas. I adore her and can't keep my lips off her

I'm in the process of asking people around here where they go for their hair, but only those who don't have short, gray, permed hair. Not many do, so I should find some other place soon.

That's the smartest thing to do. I'm not a hugger so when a stranger tries to hug me I cringe. My family never hugged, we as kids were expected to know our folks loved us.

This is actually a fun topic for me because I am a hugaholic. My buddies in Burl Jam actually hug each other good bye after each jam. We're all heterosexual men, but we appreciate the time we spend playing music together. I have "boundaries," But they may be closer than some.

I agree with you about the Florida hairdresser. I wouldn't have thrown an air kiss back the first time. Then maybe he wouldn't have planted one on your cheek. The coughing fit sounds perfect. At least @TheHorse said he would supply you with toilet paper. I'm glad you're okay with the hairdresser up north. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a kiss from that little cutie in your arms. Though it wouldn't be a good idea to get that close as I'm allergic to cats.

For some cultures that is perfectly normal, but the fact he is not like that with his other customers could be a sign of something inappropriate.
