A long time ago there was a garden in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia. The garden was by a house in which lived a family – a woman named Rasma, her husband Martin, and their darling cat Cha-Cha. The lilacs bloomed every May and made the garden a scented paradise. Her husband photographed her by the lilac bush while holding Cha-Cha. Time passed and one winter Cha-Cha had respiratory failure and died in her arms, years passed and another cat Sid came along but being a boy he was not happy to have photos of him among the lilacs so there are very few. Then Mays came and went her soul mate passed suddenly and now it has been over twenty years since that photo was taken and the lilacs are no longer hers.

That's a lovely photo. Other than the beautiful woman and her cat, that photo reminds me of my youth on a farm in Missouri. Mom had a line of lilac bushes at the edge of our garden. My youngest brother and I played among the blooming lilacs there a lot.
I've always has a lilac bush in my yard every time I've moved from house to house except this one. Lilacs aren't common in my area now and I haven't been able to buy a new one to plant here.

@RasmaSandra I'm sure it was beautiful. Lilacs are considered "old-fashioned" now so they've been removed from the city gardens here.

@DaddyEvil that is wonderful that you had lilacs in your garden. They are really lovely but so sad they bloom such a short time. Every year while they were blooming my husband and I made sure we went into the city because it was such a lovely site to see the old, tired buildings and pavement renewed with lilacs blooming between the buildings and along the way.

@rebelann in my current profile photo of our second cat Sid, he is lying on an outside window ledge in our house in Latvia and behind him, lilacs are blooming by our greenhouse. He loved the scent the breeze blew through the air.

Such a pretty picture to treasure and all the memories it brings. It's sad that Martin is no longer around to take pictures Rasma but I hope you're happy being in Florida. I know you must miss him terribly as well as your life together in Latvia.

@JamesHxstatic in life there are only two paths to take one is to adjust and one is to fall apart and I could not follow the second one knowing I had to take care of myself, My Ringo and Morticia help me a lot,

What a bittersweet story and a wonderful photograph. I know it's been hard, Rasma; but I hope you've found some happiness in Florida with your fur babies.

What a beautiful photo of you and your kitty and garden. Yes, I would miss that, too.
Lilacs bring back memories for me, as well. Both of my grandmothers had them, one had a huge white lilac bush that smelled incredibly wonderful.

I think i have only seen one or two pink lilacs in my lifetime. I love the soft, pink color of them.
